Since your Lexus drivetrain is all analogue and you've figured out how to drive the gauges directly (with the wires) all I was really suggesting on the custom PCB was more something to hold all the items in place behind the dash. Make it the same shape as the existing one, put holes and tracks in for the lights, gauges etc., but then rather than having to worry about having a microcontroller and so on in there you simply route them as plain old analogue signals to a connector of your choosing. All the bits can be purloined (desoldered) off your existing circuit boards.

Does that make sense?

Such a circuit board would probably take longer to actually draw the original shape rather than actually make. We could etch the circuit board in a couple of hours quite easily - provided we've got a big enough piece in stock.

Yes that does make sense I think, and it’s really interesting, I’ve never considered making my own circuit board tbh, always been something out of reach I guess.

it looks like I have found a neater solution though, so I’m going to give that a try, if that fails then I will definitely go with a custom circuit board as what I’ve got now is a very janky setup tbh. But as long as it works lol.

Before all this CV19 stuff you could probably get everything cheaply from China (although not tried it personally) but I did use in my previous job pcbtrain.co.uk. A 300x100mm PCB would be £145 from them based on their online quote tool (although they are by a long way not the cheapest).

No idea what our raw circuit board costs but I can find out. If everything fitted onto a 0.1" pitch then you could probably just use a bit of Vero / strip board.

Can I ask, assuming your intention is to eventually use the car on the road, what do you need to do in respect of 'legality' (and I use that term loosely!). I'm thinking here SVA perhaps?

BTW, those ST170 badges would look good if you could change them to reflect the power of the Lexus engine!

I have no current intentions to use it at all. lest the internet keyboard warriors get on my back because i know they're watching lol

I do have plans for badges, but priorities and all that ha!

no I’ve just got standard nuts on them at the moment because the nylons tend to get stuck and break the clamps when you take them on and off multiple times. When they’re going on for the final time I’ll chuck a nyloc on as well or instead

Ah, the reason I mentioned it is cos those clamps will get hot and a nyloc will melt. I worked with V Band clamps (and their associated wire/asbestos gaskets) in the aircraft industry. Always had a non-nyloc locking nut. I'll try and find a picture, give me a minute.

loving it the bit of tin behind the exhaust personaly I would just lose up to that body line , good work , suprised you get under when theres that much tin worm in those sills though , but nothing that cant be sorted .

yeah I’ll see how how they get I suppose, I’ve not got gaskets between any of them at the moment and there only seems to be a slight leak on the 2 engine bay ones and that’s only between the gap in the clamp so they’re all pretty well fitting

I’ll stick with standard nuts for the moment as they’re bound to be on and off whilst I do more work on the bodywork.

it’s a ford, it’s supposes to rot lol. I’m not sure what to do with the bit behind the exhaust, one side is rotten so has to be rebuilt anyway but I’m not sure on how much or what to rebuild back.

I had a car fall on my before, I’m always nervous underneath but not much choice really lol. There’s plenty of structure there I’d have to be ridiculously unlucky for it to be bad enough to fall on me

Great watch. Just up to episode 5. Had to laugh when you spent an age centring the Hub in the lathe then tightened it the wrong way and it dropped out. Been there done that.
