Yeah I self taught for the most part.
I have a mate that’s done a lot of tig previously and he showed me the basics (I was already proficient enough in mig and I have been officially trained in stick for railway vehicles) but his basics were...
Use this gun to make a puddle of metal
Dip your rod into the puddle
Move a little
Repeat
lol
The rest has been self taught
Looks like you may be a bit high on the balance, awful lot of cleaning action going on there.
With the balance set too high you get that crazing/crackled look to the aluminium and also the deposited metal. You should have a small amount of cleaning visible at the edge of the weld but the deposited metal itself should be shiny. I will look back and see if I still have a pic to show what I mean.
Regarding the integrity of the weld, it probably won't do much harm.
It is normal to have the band of cleaning down either side of the weld but as you can see in your picture the whole weld bead is actually covered in it as well. Unless it is some sort of illusion of the camera.

Coming along nicely, the laser cut tabs was a good shout. Not something I can do as I only have plasma and that is not really accurate enough for such things.
Couple of things, grind up a tungsten for a scriber, they are excellent and better than a knife
Also something I do when finding half, once I have it where I think it should be I measure from the opposite side to make sure it is the same value, it wouldn't be the first time I would have been 5 or 10mm out if I had just gone with the head calculations
Aye, just like mine
99% of the time it is correct but does no harm to measure from the other side to make sure they are both the same
You are probably extremely tidy in comparison to me
Yes I very rarely can't find what I am looking for.bet you know where everything is though lol.
I’m good after I’ve cleaned, then I’ll go months making a mess then clean up again... and repeat - I should really sort myself out lol
