I would do like rtb has done and empty the oil out of the suction and carefully grind off the top you are then free to drill and weld the casing without damageing the motor etc inside. looking at the clark ones most have some kind of clamping system to replace the top to keep them quiet. 200 psi is no problem for them either.

I decided that cutting the top off and welding it back or using sealant & clamps is more trouble than it's worth. The hot oil seeps out of the smallest hole and welding is difficult because of oil contamination. The loil is flung about quite quickly by the motor.

Nice stuff!

I used a smaller Danfoss compressor from a small beer tapping system for use at home (old one, obviously compressor based, 200-250 Watt compressor). Worked great for launching water rockets and inflating tires. Once i left it plugged in for a few hours, got too hot to touch but didn't get damaged, still works great.

After a white i found a broken A/C unit (gas gone and case trashed) with a 1100 watt Toshiba compressor in it. The comp itself is pretty heavy.
This one moves a lot of air and has no trouble with pressures of up to 250 PSI or even more. Startup can be difficult but with enough oil in it its no problem. the lights dim when it is switched on
It is also very usable for use as a vacuum pump. Together with a friend who builds (HPR) rockets (solid fuel, now moving to hybrids) we made a small vacuum chamber to prepare the fuel.

hey, everything OK, busy, but good. busy moving to my own place etc! How are things at your end?

The frying pan is for heating the content of the pressure cooker pan, that was the actual vacuum chamber.

SI is better yeah, lets see, 250 PSI is roughly 1.75 Mpa. The Toshiba compressor should be able to give a bit more maybe.
I haven't tested the Copeland compressor for capacity yet. It moves a lot of air for only 2 hp though.
For the workshop stuff we have a normal 4 hp compressor since we want to do sandblasting and other things that use a lot of air.

As for life at this end.. Pretty well, just bought an old boat that I am going to restore. Should be fun.

Thats one interesting contraption JW, your compressor might find it easier to start if you had your electrics upright. on some of those starting relays it says top on them !
