And I really hate ones that are under the floor. The only times I've ever had a flat tyre as been on a vehicle with it under the floor and the boot is full which necessitates emptying the contents out onto the side of the road. What was wrong with leaving the spare wheel where it normally goes, under the floor? I really dislike rear mounted spares, and one that has to be separately swung clear would drive me nuts.
Had one on a couple of landies when I was a young un. Best place for them I reckonHere's me thinking a bonnet mounted spare was next level.

That's fine when you're fit enough to lift the bonnet with a 7.50 x 16 wheel on it
CheekyYou guys are talking Land Rover here.
Aren't the bonnets always open (with someone shaking their head next to it).
That's true of the older ones. With the newer ones replace bonnet with walletYou guys are talking Land Rover here.

Oh I don't know. Use them, abuse them but keep ontop of maintenance and I've found them to be more reliable than anything else (and longer lasting). That's true of the older ones. With the newer ones replace bonnet with wallet
I still miss my ex army 90 and my Disco 3.....
the military Wolf Landrovers have them mounted on the side,
You'd need a couple of Squaddys as passengers at all times, to lift that off/on in the event of a flat...
I seem to recall they included some sort of strap system for raising and lowering the wheel from it's mounting. You'd need a couple of Squaddys as passengers at all times, to lift that off/on in the event of a flat...
My first car was a Renault 10, the spare wheel was behind the front number plate, you lifted the bonnet, pulled a lever and the number plate hinged down on a frame to reveal the spare wheel, then just slide it out. Each to his own I guess. If I remember correctly the P38 spare wheel was mounted from underneath, you you don't have to empty luggage to get at it. Or am I misremembering? Our first Range Rover had the spare standing upright at the side of the luggage area, so you might have to move luggage a little. Neatest solution I've seen was the Lada Niva where the spare was under the bonnet.

Well the engine was behind me the only car I've ever made a profit on, cost me £90 and sold a few months later for £120You seem to have recovered well, try to put it behind you...
