Managed to get most of the leg work in for the Water / Methanol injection this afternoon.

Was amazed how long the wiring loom was but unfortunately two feet too short!, no big deal.

Though I'd struck lucky as I left my 6mm OD nylon line in from the Aquamist system but AEM run 1/4 inch (6.35mm) line unfortunately!.

Need to knock up an aluminium plate to mount the reservoir and a bit of wiring left to do tomorrow.

A nice quiet afternoon in the sun, quite enjoyed it really.

Got the Water injection done and dusted, made a mounting plate tonight after work.

Plate holes are threaded and button head studs fitted from behind (x3), top right stud is pre-fitted to car and plate fits over that.

I made tank easily removable to access tail light cluster for bulb replacement.

Garage next door to our work were kind enough to lend me their battery tester and it's tested fine so all good there too.

I've made some 50/50 Water Methanol mixes by weight (2l water + 2.5l methanol) so hopefully do some tuning runs on Sunday with my lad.

I would not run screenwash personally.

I use 2l Distilled water mixed with 2.5l Methanol (Methyl Alcohol) to give a 50/50 mix by weight.

Sods law I've found a 20l tub in one of my sheds today but the 5l tubs are easier to handle.

Do not leave Methanol tubs on concrete (or on the floor).

Just be careful when handling it, it's nasty suff. I mix mine outside and it's kept where if there's a leak it cannot harm any pets / wildlife.

Took my pit crew out today for a shakedown run.

She was eyes on the tuning tablet and a massive help while we were testing.

Autotune via TunerStudio has done the job perfectly, adjusted our fuel maps to accommodate the extra fuel injected as part of the Water Methanol mix.

Didn't go daft and we did probably 50 miles total but it's got some go for a light-ish car.

I think when winter comes around I'll rebuild the Supercharger and put the 65mm pulley on (1 bar boost at 1800 rpm).

Feel a lot better now we have the water injection fitted again, that was a proven system around Donnington all those years ago.

Mulling over a 2 stroke injection system to lubricate the scrolls in the G-lader, like Mazda did to lubricate the Apex seals in there rotary engines..

That's not our oil all over the floor by the way, luckily I saw it before we pulled up or I'd have been in panic mode lol.

I think it's due to the fact it's hygroscopic. Apparently it can suck moisture into the tubs.

I've been told by a few suppliers to keep it off the floor.

If it's for industrial use they probably have to have the barrels on top of saftey trays to avoid problems if a barrel or tub leaks.

Dangerous stuff, burns with a clear flame very difficult to see, and breaks down non alcohol resistant fire fighting foams very quickly. Often used for hydrate mitigation in oil and gas processing.

Yes, that's why I'm using 50/50 mixtures by weight with water.

I tried similar years ago with a two stroke outboard. When it worked great, but didn't last long before it broke.

I have multiple failsafes, the controller will sense motor fault, low fluid, voltage problem, internal controller fault and my ecu will switch maps.

I'm not going all out, water injection gives me 1 afr point richer so it will not be catastrophic engine failure before I notice a fault.

This is more a belt and braces approach to keeping my engine in one piece.

I did my my own fuels for my other car (M20) but handling pure Methanol in garage forecourts got old pretty quickly.

I have my eye on their (AEM) flow guage but they are quite expensive (600 iirc), as much as the kit but that would negate any failure (including blocked jet, disconnect hose etc).

After moving the GTO about over the weekend I've realised I've been kidding myself I didn't need the power steering on the Golf, and it has become a bit of a chore parking it up.

Managed to find my rack and an hour spent cleaning and inspecting showed it was in good condition (bar the hard fluid lines).

Managed to find a pair of new hard lines and they are on their way.

I wanted to run the pressure and Return lines and the pump supply line in AN-6 coated braided Teflon, but the fittings looked complicated (hard line flare with an O ring!).

Luckily they do make an adapter so a set of M16 and M18 power steering to AN-6 are on the way as well as 4 meters of AN-6 pipe.

Looks a pig to get the rack in with the engine in but hopefully do-able.

At the time the manual steering did it's job bit it's taking the edge off the enjoyment now and needs sorting out..

Just need to find where all the brackets/ pulleys and my old UJ is are now!.

Well had a great morning out with the family, went up to the "Motorist" for a morning out.

It was Supercar day which personally I'm not that fussed with (prefer looking and taking to people who have built there own cars), but some nice machinery all the same.

On they way home the Golf was showing some unusual high Fuel Trims, looked like low fuel pressure.

Had a dig about when we got back and found the 30amp Fuel Pump Relay hot to the touch (not good!). This will be supplying 20 amp pump and obviously not up to the job..

So it's getting the GTO treatment.

A 100 amp Durite relay and dedicated 8AWG supply from battery to boot.

Just another teething problem and can't beat a bit of belt and braces..

Brilliant thread and I can’t believe I’ve only just found it. I suspect the thread title “Golf” (assumed the sport) caused me to dismiss it as anything remotely interesting.

I need to watch from the beginning to catch-up.
