Been doing early mornings and 6pm to 11pm on a night to get it somewhere near for a week now.
Took this morning off work.
First drive out in 17 years down to MOT Station and a PASS !, no advisories!.
Over the moon, shame I have to go to work.
Needs a bit of re-tuning for the new fuel but over the moon really, been a year of hard graft but totally worth it to drive the old girl again!.

Great result 
Full circle today, out for a drive with my boy (first proper drive).
Had a battle with the fuel first though, not a patch on what used to come out of the pumps when I originally mapped it..
Bit of tuning to do and worry about final paintwork next year I think..
Forgot how good it was to drive, enjoyed our trip out.

That's the OG Megatune, running on Windows 10 with an FTDI USB to Serial adapter.
I was genuinely amazed Megatune ran on Windows 10 but it works great, and datalogs fine.
I looked at TunerStudio but I've written all custom .ini files for MT and would have to start from scratch again on TS.
I did go down the TunerStudio rabbit hole, took 13 hours to get my custom firmware / .ini and .inc to work, re-writted countless times.
Seen a lot of mainController.ini lol!..
Re-wrote how TS handles the Zeitronix Wideband (gone from lookup function to transfer function AFR=V*2+9.6). All Target tables are in AFR now.
Either old age or ethanol has killed my Mitsubishi fuel pump so just bought an E85 compatible 340lph pump, it's running a 200lph motorcycle pump for now..
Fuel pump failure came at just the wrong time as I was question if I'd son how corrupted the MegaSquirt ect.
Had to re-write the download.bat as it uses choice.com which isn't compatible with 64bit processesors and re-flashed the MS so at least I know I can still modify the firmware again if needed.
If it was a Motorcycle I would have done the pump straight away but for some reason second guessed my other work which added a lump of time.
Fuel pressure guage looked fine at idle but can't see it while driving, need a differential fuel pressure sensor next like I have in the GTO..

Throttle body next on the list, this is a spare I've just bought but going to modify my original one first.
The plastic cable retainer snapped (on the drive luckily!), looking at how thin it is I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did!. It's got to pull against 3 beefy butterfly return springs.

Got my head unit fitted and decided to put my Kenwood AMP and JL Sub back in for old times sake.
Bosch EV14 560cc/min injector upgrade, fitted the Sytec 340l pump.
Modified the plastic throttle cable holder (made a metal section and welded it on to existing quadrant).
Found a suitable HP 12" Windows 11 tablet to run TunerStudio full time in the car.
Getting there now.

Not spent a lot of time on the Golf recently but managed to get out with my lad for a tuning run this morning.
New EV14 560 injectors in, 340lph fuel pump (completely overkill), went back to 3 bar rail pressure.
Before we were on "2 squirt alternating" which fired 2 injectors at 360 crank degrees and the other 2 at 720.
I've gone over to "2 squirt simultaneous" which fires all injectors at 360 crank and 720.
This has smoothed the low end fueling out a lot, I think I'm at the limit of the MS1 HiRes code though at 1.70ms injection time (1ms of that is the deadtime).
I've mounted a tablet for real time tuning, not everyone's taste but works a treat for me!.
Did about 30 miles this morning and it was happily correcting it's own fuel maps.
Was mulling over an MS3X but that and the sensors etc to go fully sequential fueling will be over £1000 so can't really justify it at the moment.

Always loved Mk2s with those fitted.

We had a bit of a problem with the original 4 light grill (dropped and broken).
My lad says we need a 4 light grill back on so I'm keeping an eye out for a good one that's not daft money.
I agree it needs the 4 lights back on, and painting, and new window regulators, tail light surrounds sorting etc..
The goal was to get it back on the road then work around finishing it off as and when I can put some time into it.

My dad had a 1986 diesel Mk2 Golf C. His first of many diesels ever since. It was the N/A 1.6 and pretty basic. He had 2x 7" Cibie Oscar + spotlights on the bumper, same size as the headlights, looked pretty good but the proper spotlight grill does really suit them.

Onto the bits and bobs now.
I wanted an easy solution for a wired connection to my ECU and charging at the same time, without wearing the USB-C connector out on my tablet.
So started with a magnetic USB cable, great bit of kit, there's a small adapter that lives in the USB connector of the tablet and the cable just snaps into place.
Looking into how to mix USB-C charging with USB 2.0 data transfer I came across a bloke on YouTube who had similar problems with his camera.
Turns out USB-C Power Delivery hubs are now a thing so bought one of those, and a genuine HP car charger.
Amazingly it all works together without issues, so another job off the list!.
I've gone over to 2 injections per 720 crank degrees, 1.70ms per injection (Bosch EV14 560's) which is on the limit really for my MS1 but it's made low load low RPM a lot better now, slowed my O2 feedback down a bit as well (from 8 ignition events per change to 16).
Next up is making some sealed rear light buckets and modifying some rear lights into sealed LED units to stop another leak / rot prone area. Will have to dig the welder out again!.

I've given my son my Atoto F7 head unit for his car (for some reason Android Auto never worked properly for me with it but fine on his phone).
Bought an Android single din motorised screen head unit to replace it and after battling with all the wires for over half an hour decided to move it down to the center console.
Cut the ashtray out and a bit of fettling later it fits pretty well. Plenty of room round the back for all the wires..
I've got my wideband AFR display to mount where the stereo was and maybe move the electric window switches up to the top.
Need to pull the speedo cluster out to replace some bulbs so next time round it will be an easier job without battling with the head unit hopefully!.

Fitted a 20amp 12v regulator this morning to supply my ECU (MegaSquirt) fuel injectors and Wideband controller.
It's amazing, regulates to 12.00v 12.10v absolutely rock solid.
My thinking was it should take some of the heavy lifting from the ECU components and having a known steady 12v supply to the injectors will counteract any major deadtime changes.
Seems to run slightly smoother and Ego correction is +/- 2% so I can't really ask for better than that from a 20 year old fuel injection computer running 560cc/min injectors.
Still not sold on my EFI fuse box but it will do the job for now.
Got my AEM v3 water injection system to fit this afternoon if I can get motivated!.
