Quick release bumper skins so I can fit bumper irons back on (front bumper mounts secure the front engine subframe on a Golf Mk2!). Back to black for the plastics is next step.
Trying to work out a way to easily de-mount the sill covers as this was where the corrosion occurred. The VAG way risks snapping plastic every time you remove them.
Funny to see the sill was still adhered to the sill mounts when I removed them.

Man you took on a project there, I personally would have scrapped the shell and start fresh with a better shape chassis !
I have 3 of these mk2 with different levels of tuning- one is a petrol 2.0 tdi and the others tdi !
I am in the process of tidying the pd swapped 2 door golf in order to paint it by the end of the summer !
I have another 4 door which needs sills and some floor patches but I can’t find time for it, also relocating will mean to let go of at least 2 of them !
I wish I had your determination but daily commute, family constraints and work commitments makes nigh on impossible to finish them all !

This is the 2.0 petrol mk3 Gti swapped engine, goes really well but it’s sprayed with that raptor/textured rubbish coating which is really hard to get off ! I will probably end up using this for parts but goes well !

And the last is the 1.9 tdi Ve engined 4 door, this needs copious amounts of welding and a full respray…goes like a new car, very comfortable and packs a punch ! Large injectors, vr6 clutch, adjustable suspension (eibach springs and matching shocks)…sublime ride !
Been busy with other things (First Aid Course all Sunday) but managed to get a couple of hours in yesterday.
Got sill covers on and half way though rear arches.
Trying to make them easy to fit and remove so I can do paint in stages, and take them off for cleaning behind, anti corrosion treatment once a year.
These will be getting treated as well (Forever Black).

Rear jacking panels in, which allowed me to fit rear bumper hangers and bumper.
Welded some support brackets in for sills / arches just to give it a bit more security.
Put front wings back on to sort front arch fitment.
Might just leave it in one lump now and put it through an MOT then sort paint out bit by bit.
Treated it to a new grill that's on it's way. Gone for 2 lights rather than 4..
Does look less overwhelming as a project when it's in one piece as well.
Front wings are nice and solid, just need a dent sorting and some pait which is good news.

Made some jacking points for the rear (where most of the damaged originated from originally).
These accept Tesla pucks and bolt on to the car.
Turn a blind eye to the welding lol, the inside has an M24 sleeve nut to transfer the load, outside is just cosmetic and will be getting a bead of seem sealer..

Decided to have a go at restoring my trims with "Forever Black".
These are G60 arches and going for silly money now even for cracked 2nd hand ones!.
Ended up doing 3 coats and came out much better than I expected.
It's a dye rather than a paint or silicone.
Made 2 more jacking points/ plates for back two corners

I've used Forever Black on a few cars over the years. As you say, it's a dye not a trim restorer so it's very long lasting. Not cheap at around £15 plus but a little goes a long way. The only issue I've had is you can get streaks if you don't apply it carefully and ideally you do need to mask off the paintwork if colouring trim still on the car.
I've only used the bottle with the sponge applicator. Looks like yours is an aerosol.

Mine was the seperate sponge applicator, as you say there is a knack to applying it.
An aerosol would have been good for final coat, don't think they do one though?.

I haven't seen an aerosol version actually, I just assumed they did an aerosol because you managed to cover so much of the cardboard it was resting on - realise now those are the jacking points, not trim lol.
Anyway, this is the stuff for those interested. I'd tried a few trim restorers previously, including Autoglym. Good for a while but never lasted, whereas this does seem to last.

I am genuinely amazed how well they turned out.
There was a brand new set of 4 G60 arches up for sale recently for £1000, same as everything the "scene" tax has taken over.
Quite a lot of parts are now NLA.
Stripping my seat subframes tonight and came across this.
I'm sure they should be flat..
Think they need straightening and strengthening before they go back in.
Weren't cheap either, sure they are Corbeau frames..
Passenger side is less bent so I'm assuming they aren't up to my weight lol.

Getting there, seam sealer applied underneath after work tonight so hopefully get under-floor painted on Sunday then back on it's wheels!.

Fuel tank cleaned inside and out, refitted with new straps.
Engine bay nearly there, I have a PWR water to air Charge Cooler that's been sat on the shelf forever so may bin the intercooler and fit that at some point and neaten everything up.
Inside floor nearly stripped, needs remainder of bitumen wiping out with thinners soaked rag (lovely).
Rot free though so hope yet, mulling over how to tackle the outside paintwork next, can't do 2 pack paint really.
