It's certainly touch and go for painting this late in the year. I just finished my boot & spare wheel well area yesterday, but that's inside a marquee tent inside a dry garage with a patio heater to give a couple of centigrade.... how did youu fare?

I got rained off yesterday, it was pouring down all day unfortunately.

I've made a set of removable/ replaceable plates that bolt onto chassis rails this morning so I can remove front chassis trolley and fit subframe back in. No chance of axle stands going through the main chassis paint.

Painting wise it's going to have to be a coat of ZG-90 for now I think to tide it over Christmas.

All repairs are in Zinc primer and it's holding up ok (not ideal though but better than nothing!).

I did mention to my wife we could convert living room into a garage but she was having none of that .

Cleaned engine up, new seals / silicone hose kit/ paddle clutch etc.

Me and my boy got the block and gearbox back in car yesterday (both feeling like death warmed up!.).

Still a fair ways off but at least the lump is back where it belongs and I've got some space back..

Rained off again today so lucky we got it buttoned up yesterday.

Trying to resist building a new modular wiring loom to make it easier to take to bits next time (manifold and fuel injectors all in one sub loom/ connector etc).

A bit low on priority list I suppose, job for summer and lighter nights.

Should have got some pics out front but we were both knackered by the end of it.

Well...

Decide to get her running again today, replaced all engine bay fuel lines, fitted new cambelt kit etc.

Flushed all the old fuel out and 20l of 99ron went in.

Cranked over with no plugs in to get oil pressure up.

Watched fuel pressure while cranking and it wouldn't hold after a crank.

Looked underneath and saw a puddle!.

So that's nigh on £300 worth of Teflon AN-6 line/ fittings and Sytec FPR ordered that I was trying to put on the back burner. Hey Ho!.

Should have re-done it in Teflon last time, hindsight is a wonderful thing..

Stripped rest of interior out, need to re-dye the seats.

New G60 timing belt, gone back to standard 72mm pulley for time being.

All AN-6 Teflon fuel lines made, with new Sytec regulator and sintered bronze filter.

Rear beam, coilovers and stub axles back in, brakes mocked up to measure lines.

Majority of AN-3 brake lines run with Willwood Prop valves (if I never have to make another AN-3 brake line it'll be a godsend!).

Was a bit fed up with life in general but my lad's given me a hand this weekend and cheered me up no end bless him.

Refurbished driveshafts, was putting this off due to the grease/ mess but wasn't too bad to be fair.

New outer CV boots and re-grease, inner boots were OK.

What made you go with Teflon AN as opposed to copper/nickel out of interest? Or is it just the flexible hoses that your using it on? It certainly looks the business

It was just easier to work with for me, I've run it through the car out of harms way.

I use it a lot on the motorcycles so used to making them up.

I used the AN-6 fuel line on my other car and it does make working on fuel system easier once you've built the lines so went with it again on the Golf.

Future proof as well, will put up with all sorts of fuel without issue.

Missed this sound, so distinctive!.

Bits and pieces done with my lad, drive shafts/ oil lines/ rear coilovers decided to get engine sorted keep us motivated!.

Timed it up with flywheel markers before and it didn't sound "right", re-did it with the dial gauge and it sounds much better.

It's cammed so has a certain tone to it.

Was going to spend a fortune on a "racing" battery, decided that was just money down the drain and bought a Yuassa Silver 063h, fits like a glove.

Mechanically and Chassis wise we're not far off really.

Been busy with other things but getting warm enough to paint the underside floor in next few weeks hopefully!.

Decided to put battery in the boot along with washer bottle to free up some room in the engine bay.

Got all the inside floor to strip, looks like tar based sound deadening, not looking forward to that!.

Bits and pieces done yesterday, sorted central locking (kept it pneumatic), pay good money to have an alarm installed and end up with chocky blocks..

Think I'm in for a day of re-wiring today and fitting the Wideband AFR meter.

Busman's holiday as they say for me, do it all the time at work.

Decided to make a panel to bolt onto passenger side bulkhead with all the EFI gubbins on that panel, seperate fuse box etc.

Ordered fuse box today so will have to wait till next week now.

Looking a lot neater already but it takes an age to do!.

Bits and bats done, roof lining had to come out, my lad gave me a hand!.

Tidied wiring up, half way through making a plate to mount PCM, Wideband and EFI fusebox (to seperate it from main fusebox).

Decided to keep my OEM G60 plastic trims and arches.

Trying to work out best way forward for the sill cover mounts, do I bond them on to bar metal then mask and paint around, bond on after Epoxy Primer or bond on after final paint?.

Was thinking bare metal would be best but would that cause rust issues?.

One more corner to sort out then MOT time hopefully, nice to drive it again even if it was only on the front drive!.

Last on list is to make a jacking bar for front and rear so I can jack an end up with one jack.

Sorted some removable jacking plates made out of 5mm steel today for rear corners.

Probably a day's welding left then off for an MOT but been busy with other things (sod's law when weather is nice!).

Round one of floor scraping tonight.

Oddly satisfying and happy how sound it is. Smelt damp while I was removing the bitumen so water had been under parts of it.

Next stage rags and some appropriate solvent (panel wipe maybe?).

Got me second guessing using bed liner now but maybe just a thin coat so I can keep an eye on it..

Bit of welding today but more importantly bumper irons..

Been putting it off but needed doing. Pictures don't do justice they were mingin' !.

Mainly Poly Disks and wire brush work, Zinc Primer and ZG-90 Black to finish.

You'll never see them on the car but needed doing!.

Another job off the list.

Treated myself to a rear valance as well, £40 from VW Heritage a bloomin bargain!.

Both the grey primer and black top coat look great. Will be adding zg-90 to my notes.

I'm always amazed how cheap some marque's parts and panels are. Classic VW Beetle new parts for example are crazy cheap.
