The castor is fine, as is the camber, i think the Kingpin is at fault.

I may try and cast an aluminium wheel, with the Gingery green sand casting method. I'll use the 'good' one as a template die.

I really wouldnt bother (unless you want to!) casting your own wheels. You can buy a heavy duty version of these from b&q (the grey broken plasticy bit is steel on the b&q ones). I have bolted many a wheel on to our welding sets

I've never understood how the delivery inspection could possibly work. The guy isn't going to wait for you to wire a plug onto the thing to see if it works. Takes long enough to get all the bubblewrap off . Inspection on delivery is a fallacy.

Unfair about the wheels though - not a lot of stress on wheels in bumping the thing around the garage - so long as they arrive in one piece they should be OK. Feel there should be an alloy option though.

If Portamig are supplying their quality (apparently) welding sets with rubbish castors, the answer is a phone call, mention of "unfit for purpose" and a polite request for something that will last as long as the welder, and a "don't worry, i'll fit it meself, thanks, or you can send a little man, if you wish"...

Not at all - sounds like a really good idea, and one I'd not even thought of asking for yet.

We've already got the paint colour choice (though not custom paint like we asked for). I reckon it's all in the options, though I spent a bit of time in marketing and it drove me mad (so don't trust what I say).

If you're going to punt portamig as a quality unit, they should be supplied with peripherals that don't fall to pieces before they even get out of the box. For christs sake man, have some self respect! Irrelevant? Really? Don't you think it's important? People go on for months about how good portamigs are, then two complaints in as many days about ****ty wheels, and you think thats acceptable? No way Hose.
Believe me, I have the best interests of you and Portamig at heart, and it seems like a really stupid way to get a ****ty reputation. Also, with the GOOD reputation the company has, it might be worth charging an extra couple of quid so that people can wheel their machines around the workshop without them collapsing on the floor like some piece of B&Q crap!

the ones on my welder are crap and that was a £400 unit well was till some one dropped it in the shop and said £150 and its yours i say yesh and of a run well as fast as a man can carry 30Kg point! ah they fall off at and hint of movement and the rep that weldquip and portamig have here are great i'm saving up or looking to sell a kidney for one i'd go for a lung but there knackered smoking and plater base products being inhaled

Option make you spend more money, I ended up going for a 4x4 wire feed unit (just in case in needed to go off roading) and a digital volts/amp meter. The extra's package probaly cost me another £150, can really be sure because, much of weldequip's pricing didnt make sense, it seemed the more i asked for the cheaper it seemed to get, think perhaps he should bin that chinese calculator and buy him self a quality one

on the things being broke in transit maybe its not the wheels fault shock loading what 48kg would damage even alu wheels so what if the things units where put in more robust packing like a crate of sorts just an idea

10mm thick steel case, and the carriers would still damage that. But yes improved packaging would help no doubt but obviously it will add costs to the machine

No, reasonably now, I think the reason for Zardoz's broken wheel may still be a moot point (not necessarily down to the carriers). Really what strikes me is that it would appear, from various comments, that Portamig have used a batch of cheaper wheels than normal for this recent batch of machines, delivered this week, and it would also appear that they are not up to the job.

Now, not to make too much of a fuss, and this doesn't affect me at all, but I don't think it's in the interests of the good name of Portamig that they allow this state of affairs to continue. Fair enough?

maybe new contract to new Carriers possibly who foots the cost for them tossers breaking stuff and on the outher hand who pushes them to do so many drops in a day so they can get some decant cash at the end of the day i know I've had to work longer to make up for overheads like petrol for one i used to do 8hrs a day now I'm up to ten plp want stuff cheap and its not cheap to get it to them

The wheels on the Portamig are superior to most other machines in, and a lot well above, their price range and this is strictly down to damage in transit, which I will rectify (at my cost).

it's not really fair on you as a trader tho i know how it feels when i get stuff on site and if fooked due to poor handling it comes out of my pocket not the person responsible have you had a word to the plp at fault at mabe a discount or allowing more time for checks to be made

Thing is weldequip has agreed to replace them, which is the service you can expect from a weld distributor, wouldnt get the same of flea bay thats for sure
