Harrison Lathe with LOO Taper Mount???

I recently made a bush for my L00 Boxford, measured out at 4.5mt.
I made it for taking 5C collets and it was simple.
If you purchase the lathe and need a bush for turning between centres etc just make one up out of some silver steel.

Why silver steel out of interest??

It shouldnt be too difficult to replicate the internal spindle taper and make a bush to suit your needs. 4.5 Mt or the American lads swear its Jarno13.

Good quality and fairly hard to start with and then easy to harden fully when finished.

I would take an mt5 as well,, my Colchester is supposed to be m14. 5 but Is mt5..... I found this after I had followed the advice that it was definitely mt4. 5 and no way it would ever be anything else. . So I made one and it didn't fit

I have ordered a L16 bushing from G&M hopefully I'll be able to machine it.

If its not machinable it'll probably end up as a spacer/tool on my hydraulic press, which is where I suspect most of them have ended up over the years....

LOL..i have loads of hydro press tooling from round stock projects gone bad so its not just you iff it goes t1ts up.

wow just read that, I`m not a Colchester man and never realy looked at the manual before, very interesting given the Harrisons pass 35mm in the Spindle against 38 on this Colchester.

I have now received the L16 reducing bush, I just tried turning it in my L5, it will cut just with a tipped tool, so I am going to try and modify the L16 bush, so could someone please measure their LOO reducing bush and post the following dimensions.

Large diameter.

Small diameter.

Overall length of bush.

Would annealing it help? Aren't the dims up in the tables above?

The tables above are for the tapers themselves, the reducing bush appears to be shorter than the full length of the tapers, also the bush may sit proud of the spindle, the only way for me to know is by its dimensions...

Fair enough, I'll check mine later. Wont be straightforward to measure anything accurately apart from length though as corners on taper are radiused

I understand regarding the radius edges but as close to ends as possible will do...
