Heating oil increase this morning

Coryton refinery was huge, I worked there & Wytch farm (Dorset) for a while in the 90’s before petrolplus took over, and then they had Shell and another I can’t remember all along the Thames. All gone now afaik so Pembroke must be near enough the largest, though Fawley might be bigger.

I would have thought there was more demand for heating oil in rural areas than Dartford?

Unless you buy it direct from the refinery I struggle to see how proximity has much to do with the price, it’s much more likely you buy it from a third party supplier who will all have their own individual deals with the refinery (or even other middle men), plus their own costs, profit margins, customer bases etc.

Our supplier has their own base in Pembroke. They are bound to get a better deal as they don't have to pay for road tankers to deliver to a depot somewhere else. The cost of sending road tankers perhaps 100 miles in each direction will definitely add to the cost.

I'm not saying it won't, but there are probably many other much bigger factors at play than that....

Good point, much higher percentage of domestic will have oil in rural areas but enough to counter the population density? Also small non-domestic use to be considered perhaps?

It could just be down to the fact that the local suppliers have bigger tanks and are slower to react to market forces - and as they have a pretty captive market with not much competition they can make far more money by reaction slower.
With the price difference I could afford to ship some empty IBCs to Darford - get them filled and shipped back here - nuts

I think this is a factor, the supplier I've used for last probably the last 7-8 years doesn't hold any stock at all, they have their own lorries and buy from the big players. The margins must be really tight and it's all based on volume.

I used to work for a local supplier 25-years-ago.... and then all the local Oil Distributors sent their own tankers in to draw straight off the Refinery Racks - so a lot of fuel went straight from the Refinery to the end user's tank.
(Businesses taking full loads were nearly always supplied with a load straight off the rack).
If the price dropped they'd pile any spare artics in to the racks and bunker it in the yard.
Pembroke didn't gage Refineries and Racks for all brands either - so you'd see Brand Y Tankers drawing fuel off Brand X's Racks - but of course the punter was blissfully unaware...

It always cracks me up the people who refuse to buy supermarket petrol and then pay more for "premium" brands

The price of gas is expected to halve in Jan/Feb. The price of oil will also drop.
The way the Ukrainians are going I think Putin may fall sooner rather than later. If so the prices will crash with a vengeance.

Why will prices crash if Putin falls? I'm not being facetious, I genuinely don't know either way. I can't imagine Europe will be overly keep to reopen pipelines even though they probably really have to.

If Putin falls hopefully someone sensible will take over - or someone who only cares about money and not politics - and will beg us to drop the sanctions. Russia is really suffering now. They were in a state before all this happened.
Even without a change in the situation with Russia the gas price will fall dramatically in Europe as more and more LNG terminals and pipelines open up. Remember gas prices are still dirt cheap in the USA - it is a supply problem not a lack of gas.

Yep. Watson took over Keltic at Launceston. They never quite offer to beat Boilerjuice always 0.5-1p a litre more. I told them this morning they would have to do better than what I could get online to get the order this time. On smaller quantities I let it go to try and support the more local suppliers.

Diesel is 35sec, kerosene 28.

It wont run easily if you do it 100% (i know this, as ive tried it) but if you do 50:50 with kerosene, you wont even need to adjust the settings on the pump.

(ive only skim read the thread, and i think youre probably sorted anyway, but the above is if you still need to know)

Oil prices seem as low as end of September currently around me. Being quoted 76ppl which isnt bad for this time of year in normal circumstances. I am guessing everyone has stocks as they have held off buying and its been quite mild.
