Heating oil increase this morning

Yep - it hasnt changed for a few weeks. I bought 500l at about 62ppl. I'm probably going to gamble and wait till July then buy 3000l of oil and 4 tonnes of whatever the cheapest anthracite replacement is.

I'm actually comtemplating having the rayburn on all summer. Hot water, cooking and hiuse heat if needed in the evenings (can adjust by fiddling with the stat that controls the heating pump) all for about £5 a day. I cant figure if its cheaper than an oil burn for water and leccy for the oven and hob.

You can do a back of envelope guestimate, by multiplying cost per unit of energy by amount required and factoring in efficiency.

Or by measuring for a few weeks, changing and comparing.

Don't forget to consider your time and servicing costs too.

Gut instinct is that running the boiler once or twice a day might be a bit cheaper on paper but potentially quite a bit cheaper when you factor in the carting of fuel/ash and the longer burn times needed to get everything up to temperature

The CH part is pretty efficient spray nozzle burners. New 15yrs ago. But the oven is on the classic style of leaky heat.
Had an old rayburn originally with the dual oil lampstyle burner..... an oil incinerator.

Sorry, I misunderstood - thought you were talking about the dual wick burners - as you say, notorious.

despite their inefficiencies, I don't 100% hate the old wick types. They have advantages; last a lifetime (or three) work in a power cut and cost buttons to service DIY.

White kero. $6 for 1.0 usgalls= $6/3.7854 =$1.585 /ltr ? Is that diesel in US?
I burn kerosene as CH fuel. What's the Fuel #2 ? at $3/3.7854=$0.7925 /ltr ????

It was a very expensive item and I was disappointed with the oven side. The old solid fuel ones made sense. Only source of heating,HW and cooking, so lit all year round. Leaked heat to warm room. Oven temp settings in Rayburnese. The kept all the crap bits on the modern one to keep with tradition on top of a modern burner system. The CH boiler gives of no heat, but the oven takes a long time to warm up and couple of days to cool down Great for cooking in summer. It looks beautiful, though unused.

White Kero is Kerosene for heaters, but you pay the road tax.
Red Kero is dyed because the road tax is not on it.
#2 is regular diesel fuel, Red dyed has no road tax. Used for farm tractors and home heating. Home heating also pays no sales tax (6%).

But is that the correct price/ I thought in the States it was the same price as water? It was in Saudi.
