I won't know until I get home whether that helical grooved piece arrived. Just coming back from the retirement do.
Imho best present there, I think it was really appreciated. Gave it to him then took it back to finish off!
We're going to meet up when it's done.
Here it is in all it's unfinished glory with a 3D print of the missing helical grooved element. Thanks to all those who helped, couldn't have done it without you.
3D printed case, embedded neodymium magnets. This done by my lad:
Salt water etching on 316. Approx 90 seconds per letter with a cotton bud and a 5Ah Makita battery:

Just testing the water here. Could anyone do me a really pretty TIG weld, as in a something to be proud of, wow, who did that type weld?
About 15mm long.
