309 is the better, use for everything option, I believe, but for the ornamental use
I'll likely take it to somebody who can do a pretty TIG weld. Done right that can be a thing of beauty in itself.
On that subject what is used to get rid of the colouration you can get around the weld? Years back the fabricator I used would take it outside in the yard and pour "an acid" over it, then neutralise with a bucket of water. H&S would probably have a fit nowadays.
