There doesn't seem to be any pictures on t'internet of them so I've been struggling to find anything to help with the speed thing.
Is using my lathe's inverter a reasonable idea? I would need to put a mains switch on the lathe so only one machine comes on at a time, is there anything I'm missing?
nice.
waiting to get some ali to have go at making new set of pulleys for one of my presses to slow it down.
other options are 4th set of pulleys or washing machine drum pulley.
if you need pulley's let me know club had some from old dead stuff, they were in box of bits they take to shows to sell for donations.
can look see if they still have any for you.
ali is coming free from guy at club who as starting melting his own.
free as in had to supply bit's of ali for him to melt, and got set of alloy wheels of e-bay for £1.99 as badly scuffed.
so just need to clean it up and turn it.
my local place wanted fortune for set that had 8" pulley on it and small one was to big.
plus another skill learned if i get it right.
Thanks for the offer, I'll see if I can make something up myself first.if you need pulley's let me know club had some from old dead stuff, they were in box of bits they take to shows to sell for donations.

I've seen one of them where the two half pulleys were made of fingers that interlocked with the other one he owner said he never uses it because it's so noisy.Do away with the pulley system and change it to Variable Speed drive......no belts to mess about with changing the speed...just an adjust knob and lock.

That does look cool.Beauty about this type of variable speed drive is the parts can be got secondhand in ebays automatic scooter parts section ie twist and go engines.
That does look cool.
Isn't that similar idea as beetle engine used?
Saved pic to study later as might be useful on something else im looking at.
correctomondo...i had one and joined the drive belt together after it snapped with 2 bent 2" nailsI think that system was used on Daf cars back in the 60's and early 70's. Known as Variomatic transmission.
Volvo also used the variomatic system in the 80scorrectomondo...i had one and joined the drive belt together after it snapped with 2 bent 2" nails

pass not sure, a guy once came to me with one he had just bought and stated there is something wrong with this auto box, I cant hear the gear changesDidn't Volvo buy out/take over Daf at some point? Or was it just the Variomatic thing that they bought?
