I seem to recall my brother saying he actually had a compost bin catch fire!

The mesh underneath is a good shout.

At the MIS Allotments, we use the hot compost bins to heat water in a truck radiator, they then feed pipes to radiators in the polly tunnel.
Keeps them nice and warm.

With the upkeep of the grounds the compost heaps are massive. We were discussing their potential for heating. Trouble is the buildings are some distance from the heaps. Getting the pipes across the moat/mote would be interesting, heavily lagged pipes on the bridge wouldn't really be in keeping.

its those places that bug the hell out of me expecting handouts

they can easily build that heater ive posted up on your other post already and put the grass cutting mixes to good use and save money on heating but they dont

they dont want to pay for it and certainly dont want to pipe it into the property

yet they can save money and put that money to good use elsewhere and the end produce is good for there grounds as well

Just potted on half a dozen French bean plants and have a few spares to give away:



On the right is a tray of kale seedlings, not for me but my OH loves the stuff . And the 2 trays on the left are tomatoes, a dozen each of plum and cherry. I'll probably plant 4 of each which will provide us with more than enough toms for the two of us and put the rest on a "free to good home" table at the end of the drive.

Finally finished the lawn. We had a lawn laid by 2 lads that were recommended by a neighbour, top soil and turf. Turns out she fancied one of them and was just trying to get work for him locally so she could carry on throwing herself at him. What I got was a lawn that would die and need lots of attention to revive, even then it was bumpy and over the years got worse.

Started last month on removing the old lawn to find the soil underneath was terrible with lots of broken glass, tiles and plastics. The soil they had delivered must have been demolition waste and once covered with turf who was to know. Also removed the old rockery and moved the bushes so they’re easier to mow around.
Ended up having to dig it all out the old soil and replace with quality screened top soil. Invested in an old heavy garden roller and welded together a lawn lute to get the soil levelled ready for the grass seed. The grass seed, a shady mix, went down on Saturday and I’ve finally got the easy job of watering it to keep the ground moist whilst keeping the dog off it and wait for Mother Nature to do her part. Hopefully in a few weeks time I’ll be able to report on the green shoots of a new lawn, otherwise I've just made a very big and expensive vegetable plot.

Probably, she was well known for having work done for services provided.

£76.50 cubic metre for a premium sandy soil mix delivered loose, bagged will be more.

It is a worry but I can get some IBCs and fill them prior to any ban if it looks like it’s going that way.

only reason why we get a housepipe ban is by yorkshire water selling it

our reservoirs was well built at the time and also in the past to make sure we had water in the area
