thats a beauty , any fragrance to it ?, really love what I would describe as proper old fashioned true rose
One stone to a 9 inch pot set at a five time the diameter of the stone , much less and they quickly run out of space , 15 inch long cuttings work best if done in early frost free November 9 inches deep.If you want better fruit fertilise with a healthy dose of chicken manure fertiliser. That's what made my gooseberry and blackcurrant bushes produce a load of fruit.
As they are high raised beds it's easier to treat the bed with wireworm nematodes ..... find them on eBayHelp needed. I built my wife x2 raised beds which stand about 3ft high x 3ft wide x 8ft long.
We filled it with old turf at the bottom and top soil.
Prior to lining the base with the turf we asked the local garden centre if it was ok and they said yes.
She has planted various things- but has had no success.
We have now discovered Wire Worms are the culprit and they have a 4 year cycle.
We are trying nematodes and also trapping them using a potato just underneath the surface of the soil.
Does anyone have any experience / proven methods of how to get rid of them?
Yes eventually after four or five years of annual treatments for wire worm and also slug nematodes there are no slugs , wire worms or snails in the treated area . But if you reduce bi annual treatment to zero they creep back in in 18 months or so then in a wet year like the last one they go crazy at their spring slugfest & the wire worms tunnel into your prize carrots and other long root cropsThanks DAPPH. I’ve ordered some and will give it a try.
Have you tried them?
Were they effective?
Go outside tonight about 23.30hrs with a small bright pencil beam LED torch & your specs on or a decent magnifying glass .. you'll soon find the slugs or snails , drop them in some strong salt water solution and compost them after a week sd there won't be any eggs to speak of .More off lettuce spread outside the bean enclosure tonight and some cat fur placed around a couple of chewed ones.
Same happened in the flower beds this year , after a four years break of not using nematode controlEvening all. Any of you guys or gals grow or have dahlias. My Mrs and I had a lot of them last year but this year these little gray slugs have absolutely destroyed them am I am really ****** off. Have tried different products but no joy. I even go out at night after watering and hunt for the faffn things. Anyone having the same problem
