13mm hole you could have done with a 4-5mm pilot them a 13mm drill.

It was the 4mm that snapped that was why I had the ball ache drilling the snapped bit back out! It should all be goon now the tail stock is in better aligned.

For threading? Flip the square short edge parallel with the ways, to the right of the topslide, then topslide parallel with the long side. So with your belly at 6 o'clock the topslide handle points at 5 - then a gentle tap with a rubber hammer so it's at a minute past.

No not for threading just general turning

I tend to keep mine parallel so I can use the compound dial for positioning.
Occasionally gets in the way of the tailstock depending on its handle orientation.

30degrees I think will give you a higher resolution on the dials.
Personal preference.

I leave mine parralel too. Use the know KIS principle less balls ups

Indeed. Hit the compound handle accidently and no major drama when parallel.
At and angle you could be left scratching your head wondering why your undersize.

Parallel is fine for fine-adjusting facing cuts but it does mean that the compound is likely to foul the tailstock on some operations.

I have to make sure the ball on my handle is nearest me and the tailstock clears when parallel.

I keep mine at 29 degrees, unless I'm threading Whitworth/BSF/BA, keeps the cross and top slides apart and set up for metric / UN threads...

My bar is only 12mm no chance of that fitting, but I would buy this one as a extra if it will be ok

Can't see why it wouldn't be.
Why not make a reducer so your 12mm bar fits it too
