Im bored...... so i want to biuld a garden fountain, a big fountain, a really really big fountain

so ive retired now and have been cleaning out my barns for reasons that i cant remember i have over the years stripped 2 fire engines a crash tender and an 6 wheel landrover fire tender so seem to have an abundance of water pumps of varying sizes collecting dust, i also have a cummings 6bt engine and box without a purpose in life that could power a pump, so are there any firemen or water engineers on here ? i have lots of questions on whether it will work , what size delivery pipe, fountain head design should it be like a fountain or single nozzle and see how high i can get etc etc

I was thinking of how high the jet of water would go.
When I was an apprentice one of the lads nicked a submersible pump from work for his fountain, I believe it went 60FT in the air!

if a jobs worth doing ............ 60 ft now we are talking lol, i have no immediate neighbors so i dont think a little bit of wind drift will worry any one except the sheep .... not that i want to be accused of sheep worrying

Alternatively mount it on the roof of your vehicle to blast at whatever strikers/ protesters we get blocking the road next week.

the second video uses a water tank with height so yes you can build one easier than you might think

Hmm, what will affect water height?

Exit velocity. Maximising this must be a priority?

-Pressure - more pressure, faster exit velocity?
-Orifice size? Maybe not, maybe that's just about maximising pressure.
-flow rate - there must be something there to do with creating a flow that can overcome air resistance. Or gravity, or both.

So, yea, I'd pick the highest hp pump you've got and hope it also, conveniently, has the highest pressure ability. If there's a higher pressure choice that is nearly as big, maybe that. Then, experiment with a plastic blanking plug and a step drill and watch what happens to the height as you drill wider and wider. Replace with a fancy nozzle.

It should be spectacular. A simple 8mm hole in a very boring 2000W centrifugal pump is noticeable.
