Im bored...... so i want to biuld a garden fountain, a big fountain, a really really big fountain

Do you know the pressure / debit output of the pumps ?

i will try and get some pics of any dataplate i can find on them tomorrow, i assume i just choose the biggest one i can find, i doubt they will have a pressure on them as thats a product of restriction/bore of nozzle and amount of torque and speed thats turning the pump ? i have various engine to choose from but would like to use the cummins 6bt as i have no other use for it, i have all the drive train and pump of this somewhere to so if we need a 9lt V8 turbo diesel we have one, not quite a deltic but best i can do lol

Hmm, what will affect water height?

Exit velocity. Maximising this must be a priority?

-Pressure - more pressure, faster exit velocity?
-Orifice size? Maybe not, maybe that's just about maximising pressure.
-flow rate - there must be something there to do with creating a flow that can overcome air resistance. Or gravity, or both.

So, yea, I'd pick the highest hp pump you've got and hope it also, conveniently, has the highest pressure ability. If there's a higher pressure choice that is nearly as big, maybe that. Then, experiment with a plastic blanking plug and a step drill and watch what happens to the height as you drill wider and wider. Replace with a fancy nozzle.

It should be spectacular. A simple 8mm hole in a very boring 2000W centrifugal pump is noticeable.

i think the nozzle size is likely to be around 50mm as i was going to use the cannon of the above truck as its remote control and i will be able to adjust the verticalness from a safe distance, but guess i can restrict it down if need be

with gravity flow its interesting but you see it all of the time when you flush yuor upstairs toilets into the pan

that flush of the toilet sends water down the 4" stack really fast

so imagine how fast a water flow would improve if you had 4 toilets flushing into one 4" stack the same as a large tank been emptied into one pipe

the flow is hard enough and fast enough even from 2 floors high to generate air flow and the blast of water as it exits more so seen at the rodding points on manholes

advise too watch the second video as better info for more speed

to generate a spin via a water wheel well thats easy enough the speed reference is shown by this slim to wide for a faster spin of the wheel

this one has a good reference to a new style turbine whilst it can be used to repipe some water back up to the tank

Can remember this water wheel, saw mill working as a child used to stay about 500yds away with an aunt milk delivered daily in big churn on a dog cart and ladled out into the milk jug. just after ww11 and the trams

theres a few things ive shown so far

a water wheel spinning a turbin spinning faster so now i have 2 power sources to use with very little water
now add a water pump to it by using the water wheel power

the old screw pump fasten 2-4 of them and they will still give you the same power output

in our case we can use the mills water wheel for power to pump whilst getting power from somewhere else via the turbine

yes i think that would be interesting, i envisage the last bit of the outlet will be a section of 2 or 3" threaded bsp pipe just sticking out of the water into which i can screw different jets some small singular holes for height and some domed with multiple holes for more of a rain shower effect, i found these on ebay but would make my own , i can vary the engine speed easy enough to alter the pressure, maybe a rotating disc with profiles cut into it that turns and tugs on the accelerator cable to follow a pattern

a valid point, but its just a toy i doubt i will use for more than 10 minutes at a time, and if i dig a bunker for it it will immediately fill with water and would have to run the pump even more just to keep the water out lol, if i could dig around here with out water ingress i would have an underground bunker to live in by now lol, if it does turn out to be to noisy i can biuld an insulated shed around it

not sure how relevant that would be as most pressure washers are fed with a normal 1/2" garden hose this has a 6" diameter inlet, i think i just saw on YouTube that it moves 3000lt a minute, ive got a bit of investigating to do as when the pump is installed in a fire engine it has a1000lt tank above it so when you open the inlet valve it drops straight in and the pump is primed where as i will be using the suction pipe to suck out of the pond and will need to prime the pump which it must do as they suck out of canals

the pump i think im going to use looks like this one




mine is off a standard dennis fire engine with at least 6 outputs on the pump
i do have the pump off the crash tender which is considerably smaller presumably because it only has one outlet to feed the roof mounted cannon, but on the plus side the manual says it will throw water 100m yer..... thats what we want, but im going with the big one and will remove the 4 branch mainfold and have just one outlet, well maybe 2 in case i want to wash the car

put a non return valve on the end of the suction hose, and some sort of cage around it to keep the crap out

then to prime it you can use any old cheap submersible pump?

Pop into a local fire station, Northfield, Kings Norton and Billesley all had Dennis appliances until recently so someone should be able to give advice.

They're all going digital these days this is one of H&W FRS new Scanias I saw at Kidderminster.

This what we have from customer about 20ft with hundreds of 3mm holes wants water and lights for his pond, it is over 1 acre

Wants water spurting on all 4 sides at least 500mm trying to work out the water pressure and volume required think the V8 turbo + the Cummings may not be enough lights changing color in the water flow is the easy bit, it is stainless
