Theres the Iron Bridge Gorge Museum. I went there.....bloody hell over 20 years ago Would love to visit it again. I presume it is still there.

Yep. I live near it. There's also the 'Museum of Steel Sculpture' and 'Enginuity' mainly for the kids - but as we're all big kids it's worth a visit , both in the Gorge. Good pubs too.

I visited Blist's Hill Victorian Village, part of the Ironbridge museums, a couple of years ago. Well worth the visit, and the location for TV's "Victorian Pharmacy." Loads of old machinery too.

I can recommend the fish and chips in the Victorian Chippy. Fried in proper beef dripping. NOM!

What is now 'The Doctor's House' is a Duke of Sutherland cottage that used to be a Stationmaster's house situated at the Coal Wharf level crossing. When they closed the railway line, they dismantled the cottage brick by brick and rebuilt it at Blists Hill. Same with the candlemaker's shop. It used to be up the road in Madeley.

What a fantastic thread, engineering culture at its best. We should be so proud of our fathers.
I always enjoy the Slate museum, Llanberis, North Wales. Having demonstrated there, slate splitting and making slate coasters as freebie gifts was great fun

forgot -1of the best; Bristol museum 1 of the wharf buildings,dont know the name ,just along from ss great britain,by all those stothert & pitt cranes.

Ironbridge is a great place to visit. We stayed there for a week, visited Blists Hill, along with all the other museums.

Steam, at Swindon is worth a visit too, primarily a railway museum, but covers the industrial side, as its based at the railway works.

Best to buy one of the "passport to the gorge" tickets (if they still do them) allows you visit everything at a reduced rate and lasts for years.

Shuttleworth is nice, they have lectures there too, went to see Cap'n Eric 'Winkle' Brown there.

Duxford museum nr Cambridge. Planes and a mil vehicle section. Can wander through the resto hangar. Has an area for young 'uns to try models/experiments and suchlike.

The de Havilland place in Herts, London Colney I think, is nice too, low key sort of place. Blokes in sheds nailing Mosquitoes back together.

Morwellham Quay near Tavistock, copper mine that you can take a trip down to the murky depths, good place to wander around.

They do, but they only last for 12 months. But you can visit all ten museums as many times as you wish in those 12 months.

The RAF museum at Cosford is worth a visit if you're up this way. Free to get in, parking is only a couple of quid for all day. The new hangar building that houses the fantastic Cold War exhibition is pretty awesome.

The ironbridge passport tickets last indefinatly , have a couple about 7/8 years old and still valid . They last until you have visited all the sites

Also this place is quite interesting as they have a museum to wander around as well as working steam and diesel trains.

Been to both and spent a good few hours fascinated by heavy machinery.
