In your industry I'm sure you produce the goods every day to people who see them as perfect...! I know a lot of gun customers are very fussy about their guns, the blueing, the stocks etc... I bet you've got to a level of unconscious competence.

I see some jobs which are brought to me and I cannot believe what I am looking at. The customer thinks it's fine and it is just horrendous. Screws not lined up, blueing scratched and touched up, the list goes on, yet they accept it.
I would be ashamed to put my name to it.
One skill I am quietly proud of is my ability to file stuff flat and square leaving nice clean sharp edges. I look at some stuff and wonder if they know how to actually hold a file, or stand at a vice. The answer is clearly not but it still confuses me.

Trying to achieve perfection rarely works, either. That last little 'tweak' usually leads to a ruined piece.

I figured out ages ago that those of us who strive for perfection usually make better, on their worst day, than a lot will, on their best day, so best to hope for perfection, but be willing to accept that niggly little imperfection which usually surfaces.

I did a rise and fall desk using a base much like this, base was supplied, I think it came from india and the quality wasn't great but it did work perfectly.

Just found this thread and spent a while going through from start to finish, very nice work and the end result is lovely !

A suggestion: Some of the photos are a bit dark, the camera on my older Iphone often gives similar photos. I find they look a lot better if I edit them on the phone afterwards and do nothing apart from increase the "brighness" setting for the image from normal to 100%. Hope it helps
