You pay tax on "profit", not on turnover.

Err no. If a auto-entrepreneur, you pay a % on your factures. It was an idea by Sarkosi to get people with 'hobby' businesses to pay tax, as full reg got very expensive up front and people were on the 'black'. But, it was an easy way to get into the system for blokes like me. Minor bookkeeping, but limits on turnover.

BTW, where are you in the Charente, can't be that far away?

My mate tells me the trick is to get the clients to cough up or supply the materials.

Correct. Having already paid TVA, that you can't reclaim.
When in portugal, a woodworker I knew was running through the london undeground stations as his 'name' and just made up 'his' registration numbers. Natch, there is a limit on this, and not just how many stations there are.. He sold his business on, sailed a little wooden boat to the Carib, and is now a Yacht broker and surveyor.
Basicly, there, you had to have paper for everything in the car/truck that might be commercial. Including the time you set out and expected arrival at the job. If you didn't, they started by confiscating the vehicle.... And checks were frequent. Not big stuff, just a mixer tap could get you into trouble.

Since your are already employed by the boat renters? you fit right in with the idea. If you make a wild success out of it... then transfering to more structured business become worthwhile.

No, it's the lighting in the workshop, it is pretty shocking.

Those tubes and nuts tie it all together nicely.

I sent the four photos I took today to the client, and he phoned up to say it looks magnificent, thankfully.

Then he queried did it need the other two tubes, which had occurred to me, but it's all already ordered and paid for, so he has the choice, can be removed if it's a bit overkill.

Thank you folks, I was starting to doubt myself last week, could only see the imperfections, but, overall, I'm pleased with it, maybe a bit ambitious for a first. Actually found this harder that that boat trailer.

Lots of things to get my head round, but I'm pleased with the result.

I have lost a great deal of sleep over "perfection" and I no longer worry or care. If it works = result. If not I will do it again. I very rarely need to.

While I admire those resine/wood efforts, I don't find them attractive...

Trying to achieve perfection rarely works, either. That last little 'tweak' usually leads to a ruined piece.

I figured out ages ago that those of us who strive for perfection usually make better, on their worst day, than a lot will, on their best day, so best to hope for perfection, but be willing to accept that niggly little imperfection which usually surfaces.

In your industry I'm sure you produce the goods every day to people who see them as perfect...! I know a lot of gun customers are very fussy about their guns, the blueing, the stocks etc... I bet you've got to a level of unconscious competence.
