Must admit, I've oft wondered on that. Can see them having uses on more esoteric fronts though. Another thing that's generally put me off is when you see prints with raggy surfaces. But, the suck it & see philosophy in play now.
(Just realised that may not have been the best expression to use, with the recent thread deviation.

I bought a "super volcano"(?) nozzle for mine: about 4-8x faster than the "standard" nozzle. Resolution is lower, but still perfectly acceptable for machine parts.
If you print with ABS, then you can "solvent polish" the parts with acetone vapour.

How do you create the acetone vapour?
ive got a proper hot block vaporiser, made very specifically for acetone
look Ive run out of space for one.....
and it doesn't really float my boat
Ive managed so far without one
like these paddle boxes for the model boat Im building....there are over 20 pieces of styrene in each of these
or how about the paddles themselves
or how about a framework for a hull
the bits even fit together
and a bit of C.A.D. work on the superstructure....... thats Cardboard Aided Design
and after reading bits of this thread earlier today I did had a look at some of the links on thins thread, but then thought I've got enough projects to be getting on with and I dont need any more
and the build thread of the paddle boat is here

Pour a bit in a glass jar.
Put the print (on a non-plastic plinth) in the jar.
Leave a while. (Minutes/hours).
