I wont touch a Rover V8 with a barge pole either unless its for a customer, ripped out the one that came in my series one and its getting a ford engine now
My sons got a Defender at the moment (in the process of trying to sell it) with a Ford V6 Essex in it. I know that this is more normal for the series, but it seems a good conversion. Suits it well, cruises happily at 65,& loads of low down grunt. With the wide angle V it sits low in the chassis, so the noise seems to go out underneath & it's nice & quiet to travel in. I wonder if this is what LR would have done if they had access to the engine.
