I'm not sure what attention to detail you're talking about haha, just buying and replacing everything haha. I'll get a photo of something I'm going to have to butcher I think not happy about it but you'll see later.

question Kim has the new chassis got the chassis no on it or not
because mot tester could refuse to test it or fail it for not showing a chassis no so i suggest you take your receipt to the testing station when you go

Will do, I was thinking about stamping my old numbers in as I'm cutting the old chassis up.

Liking the O.E. look all satin black, apart from the Polybushes obviously, but then again they're so much easier to fit and if necessary latterly replace ( i.e. no press ) they beat using Metalastic any day.

Me to, I may change suspension later on if I want to or have any need to but I prefer standard. Im not into bold chassis colours

A lot of the off road boys dont like polybushes , they say that the mud and dirt etc can ingress and act like an abrasive paste on them causing rapid wear.

then you will ruin the galvanising on that bit, you will need some Galvafroid paint to touch up the stamping after

I'm not sure why some guys feel the need to talk down to me when I ask questions on a defender group, really ****** me off
Anyway haven't done a whole lot today, been rebuilding the callipers. It's so boring.
Just used air line to remove some Pistons from the last calliper that needs doing, not realising I had my finger over it consequentially my finger got squashed haha.
Anyway started with the rears, I must say that after fitting the fronts I thought the rear bearmach seal kits were poorly made, well the little metal seal retainer, the rears were very flimsy and had a stupid little lip which made them murder trying to fit.
To save the paint I cut around where the calliper comes apart.

I found it easiest to fit the seal with the calliper on its back, that allowed the seal to stay somewhat central, doing it in the vice made the seal constantly dropped out.

Did the rears then did the fronts, not much to be said about them really other than the little seal retainers around the pistons were much better made.

Need to get new anti squeak plates or something, that's what I was asking when being talked down to...
Anyway I'll see if there is anything else to do but my order should be here tomorrow which will give me ALLOT to do. If I do anymore today I'll get some photos. I'll go measure the damper mount for you taitsie.

Try anti-squeal or anti-rattle shims, may get more responses?

It annoys me when women are belittled due to their sex, I've worked for female engineers without any problems. From the work you've posted on here I suspect you probably have a better skill level/knowledge than half of the Defender group!.

I'm not sure about Landy callipers Kim, but I know some manufactures say do not split the calliper in half. I don't know why, & I have without problems. It may be because they don't supply a new o ring for the joint. I agree with you about the seal retaining rings, they are a complete pain to get in. When we did my sons 90, we had genuine kits & they were just as bad. I ended up carefully grinding a small lead on the ring to allow it to go in, it seemed the only way. Have a look at the replacement pads, a lot of them have like a sort of underseal coating on, then i don't think you use the anti squeal shims. I bet half the Landies around haven't got them fitted anyway.

I think your doing great, I am looking forward to photos of the finished vehicle. Only wish I had the patience to do the same

Yes, I'll probably be flailed for saying it but unfortunately I have the opinion that a large majority ( NOT ALL ) of the Defender Facebook Group are knuckle draggers.
Many are just interested in off roading, chequer plating, what ever they have to death with little to nil maintenance, or safety regard.
Posts such as 'what can I bodge my Door pillers/posts with to get it through an MOT' and some of the contraptions that appear for sale, if afraid done nothing to change that.

With your comment about being belittled, don't take any notice of them, when I've looked on the LR forums for info, it appears that half the posters on them have no idea, & post complete rubbish. Not all, there is some good facts & advice on them but the ones that seem to do the shouting.......... They probably could not do what your doing, as Robotstar says.

Just measured them with a vernier. I have a feeling they've worn a bit. at the very end its roughly 18.5 but where the bush sits its 18.3, I'll measure the new ones when I get them if you like ?
