It did indeed, after looking at the gearbox and realising I need to spend more money today I was a bit bummer but I guess it seems to be part of the project spending hundreds at the moment

its 9years younger than me that must make me ancient :O got some parts today anyway
I think I should probably paint the bulkhead now, get that fitted then I'm ready for the brakes, wiring, steering etc to be complete

Hi Kim, looks like your set for the brake lines, you may find that the little tube cutter doesn't cut that well, I had one, but found a junior hacksaw, then file the end square, taking the burr out with a countersink better but slower. I always blow the tube out with the airline just to make sure. I think some of those mini cutters are better than others, mine tended to corkscrew down the tube slightly & close the tubing bore over a bit. You did the right thing buying the Franklin flaring tool, much better.

On the other hand, I have one of those mini cutters and find it fantastic.
It cuts steel (unhappily and I don't like doing it, but have to when joining pipes on a vehicle) and finds copper easy.
Pretty quick, very easy and you get a square and burr free cut ready for flaring. No effort and no risk of debris inside the pipe.

Maybe I was unlucky, got a duff one, that would figure, a high proportion of what I buy seems to have to go back/needs repairing before I start/doesn't fit
The performance of the cutter will depend largely on the annealed state of the copper pipe. If it's in the soft state it bends away from the wheel and will either spiral or crush (or both!), however if it is 'half hard' having been worked a bit, the cutter will work far better.
I cheat and cut fine walled pipes with a 1 mm cutting disk on a battery powered angle grinder, if you are gentle you can get a dead square cut with little in the way of burrs.

Makes a lot of work though to me, a brake pipe job for me is cut the rotten part out with the cutter, slip a fitting over and screw the flare tool on to make the flare, cut some pipe off the new reel, add fittings and flare, nip things up, bleed and stand on the pedal to check it doesn't leak - just in case one ever does.
No hacksaws, no deburring, no blowing things with airlines, minimal fluid losses etc.
For mending pipes on a vehicle it would be a pain, rather than just joining onto the existing pipe if you felt it needed blowing out I guess you'd have to take the other end off, which would be a faff. Then have fluid blast everywhere!

Ah well, I dream that some day i'll do a proper rebuild, but so far almost all the work I do is keeping old stuff working!

The tube cutters problems are mostly down to technique, tracking down the pipe is either too tight on first go, or turning it the wrong way, or both. I use the cheapest ones I can find and they cut everything perfectly, same as the bigger sizes

Hi everyone,
Sorry I've not been on, spent time with family and boyfriend who's now gone to Canada on excercise for two months. I must get it all complete by the time he gets back no if and or buts!
On Sunday he and I fitted the gearbox cleared a nice bit of room and a great step in the right direction
Fitted the rear prop shaft as well, just the front to fit but I have to change the mount on the transfer as it's different for a discovery transfer box.
Going to start painting again this week
got allot of prep to do but all the parts are here to get allot done.
Needing a bit of paint advice though which is pain.
Anyway more to follow soon
