Land Rover Defender 110 Rebuild

had a bit of a health problem last week, thankfully my boyfriend was of so he helped me we got a few little jobs done. He filled axles with oil and transfer box, just have to try remove the filler from gearbox then can do that
Fitted new steering box just need to get a connecting bar. Won't be putting that on any time soon anyway. It'll be right in my way when moving it.

Fitted new glow plugs, just need to sort the manifold stud out and that can go on What's the general consensus, do I seal exhaust manifold gasket or not ?
I also had turbo looked at to make sure a professional thought it was good they said not too bad but is work so hopefully I can get it to work and sort it whenever it needs it. Luckily it's very simple to get to

Finally ran over to shot blasters Friday with a few of the last brackets I could see still have loads to fit. Mainly all bodywork wise now

Really getting close now I'll finish most of the engine maybe today then next week I can concentrate on finishing the rear bulkhead peice, getting that welded up then if doors need work I can do those also
Really can't wait to take a huge batch of parts for painting

Haha sorry, everything's been getting in the way recently from passing my class 1 to having medical issues. Yes I am mostly sorted now thanks

Hmm won't need one hopefully. I will just get on with my life although I may buy or restore a bike to use on the road never used my bike licence yet

As promised it's that time again

Began by filing the end of the snapped exhaust stud and getting a nut to sit over it as you can see

Began welding the stuf make sure it got really hot then moved out to the nut all the way round leaving it fully welded. Once cool it came straight out

I then decided I wasn't happy with how tatty it looked so I so I began cleaning it all this is before

This is after with new studs
I will be sorting pulleys later on just want main stuff sorted right now and the engine back together before I start stripping more.

Fitted the manifold and torqued it down

Got the turbo off the old manifold and discovered the flappy thing was seized , very carefully with a hammer and wd40 it came free and fully functioning again the actuator needs replacing but I just put the turbo in place to keep it clean till I get new manifold nuts

I may take the manifold off again and get it skimmed but really not sure. Someone said it to me after I fitted it up

Looking much better anyway.

I used to have use of one at work, blasted everything on the bike I restored

I think a good clean and blast/paint of the pulleys and you'll be happy. How does the fan look?

You're making me want a Landy again. I learnt to drive on an ex-Army desert reconnaissance long range v8 petrol 110 in Saudi Arabia where I grew up. My Dad bought it after the troops left in 1992. It was great fun but a bit thirsty for the UK when we came back in 1999.

The head is already a nice cut surfice, to be honest I'm just going to try it, if it needs it I could have it off in 15mins I think

Maybe although if Like to replace the idler bearings if I can. I'll see.
I have a new fan so that's why I said I'll wait till later in the build

They are I thought bought as a kit of exhaust studs and nuts...

I use brass exhaust nuts, if available.

Hi, I use copper coated 'K' nuts on metric studs because they tend not to corrode onto the stud. On older stuff like my series LR I use brass nuts.

That's the ones. I put them on my Sportage when I had it after it sheared three studs the first time I took it off.

Well, I decided I'd fit the turbo today and swap all the bolts out

I painted a couple of the coolant pipes too and fitted one of the power steering pipes.
I got the coolant and inlet pipes out ready to clean. Took one look at them and messaged a silicon pipe maker they'll keep these as templates

And giving me back a load which will probably look like this once fitted

Unfortunately didn't get anything done during the week. I was mega busy with work (well bullied into driving more days then I wanted) hopefully this week though I'll finish that rear bulkhead peice, get it welded and dropped down for welding back onto the bulkhead if all goes to plan
