That looks spot on. I'm sure you must be chuffed.
Hi, Being a series man I think Land Rovers should be Bronze Green, but that is going to look good, at least you're not going with a garish colour. Another mile stone in a rebuild, next one's getting it running.
Colin
Do what ? LolM the same
Thanks I kind of wish I fully stripped engine and painted along with gearbox but the thought of spending that much more money and taking apart more things just makes me sick lolIt's looking really good so far Kim, keep the posts coming. It's good to see your not cutting corners, so many projects get started with the best of intentions & as time goes on the standards start to slip. I envy your attention to detail, I've a bit of a bodgers mentality I'm afraid.
I think probably you did the right thing, if it's going well, leave it, stripping it you could be opening a big can of worms. Thanks I kind of wish I fully stripped engine and painted along with gearbox but the thought of spending that much more money and taking apart more things just makes me sick lol

Mines got 200k on it now (300tdi) and I absolutely abuse the life out of it, it's an engine that built to work hard and work hard it does, it's the ones that never go above 2k rpm and potter about that crap themselves. Mate has a 200tdi that's wrapped in cotton wool and there's always something wrong with itI really don't understand this 'legendary unreliability' thing some people keep spouting.
My disco has 145,000+ miles on it, and it still works for a living (yes, the cambelt went, but that can happen on any engine with a belt and it was almost due - plus it broke due to the incompetence of a previous mechanic). I fully expect that I could triple that mileage without too much hassle if I want to keep it that long.
My series 3, well, that's only got 93,000 miles on (the accuracy of that number is very open to debate) since 1972 - and yes, that works for a living too.
So, enlighten me.

Seen a big straight 8 cummins in a tug do the same thing, never really worked that hard until the day it needed to, and then it spat 3 liners out of the stbd engine . Cummins replaced them, ran it up to bed it in and popped the port engine exactly the sameive been out a few times in a mates series with a 300tdi in it and he thrashes the hell out of it (think he said it has some fairly upgraded axles, diffs, gearbox etc designed to take some stick), last time we went out his brother came out in his 300tdi 110 and as marcus was bouncing his way up a slippery rocky bit the 110 spewed its oil out all over the floor...we all caem to the agreement that the 110 was treated with kid gloves and was never really put to work properly, and when it was put to work it just opened up and gave up
