Land Rover Defender 110 Rebuild

Presumably it needs to be slightly flexible to make up slight irregularities and to seal to stop engine fumes entering the cab. Paper probably wouldn't cut the mustard. Lot's of rubbery gasket materials on ebay. Thin cork would probably do.

I have some 2 mm neoprene sheet that you are welcome to. (Unfortunately my laser cutter won't cut it or I'd cut some for you if you sent me a .dxf of the shapes)

That makes sense . If I just put 2mm neoprene in should give me some results. I'm a bit cautious searching for rubber on ebay

If not, I have a sheet of cork gasket material about 2-3mm thick I can let you have some of that if you need it. I'll look it out tomorrow & see how much there is. I've had it since about 1972, so I don't think I'll need it now!

Hi guys.
Thank you both for the offers. I need about 300mm X 300mm peice of either. That'll allow me to do clutch and brake mounts

I have to say on another note the clutch system is really ******* me off. I have the genuine pipe still which is a bit corroded at the slave cylinder end. What's frustrating is not one of the unions is a standard size. They're all different sizes and different types of threads. The brake system on the other hand all seems to be the same.

I can re use one but not the other. I think one is 7/16 unf, I just ordered the nut for it so I'll go look and order a union as well.

Yes, you'll find a couple of different sizes each of metric and imperial pipe nuts / bleed nipples etc.

It's a very simple system - look at and identify the connection on one end of the pipe, the other end will not be the same

Easier said then done sometimes. Should be able to sort it. Luckily it's only one Union I need finish it now I think.

I put the wiring in place along with bolting the wiper things.
What can't be seen is I finished the exhaust. Other then plumbing the heater box I finished the coolant side of things.
Need to source a couple new connectorsthat I broke when removing them

Really hoping that end of next week brakes and clutch may be done and bled. Then maybe week after hopefully I'll start it. Not far off it now.

Try the local land rover main dealer

I had to replace the bleed nipples on my disco calipers and main dealer had them cheaper than any online place I could find, plus I walked in, gave them money and walked out with them - instant postage!

I'll have a look on line first because the local Lr place ripped me off for some parts on my boyfriends car. Refuse to use them unless I absolutely have to.

Fair enough, probably pennies on this sort of thing anyway. (iirc I saved about £6 on a set of bleed nipples though, once postage was accounted for.)

God that's understandable. I need one only. I think I found it and it's about £2.50 delivered but not worth worrying about for that.
Wasn't far from me that's for sure. Not a big one but they're a rip off for parts. £215 for two ball housing on their own. About half that online but I was desperate. They're all makes and terrible finish.

Regarding the union on the slave cylinder, Kim, we had the same problem on a series, we had to get the flare fitting from Land Rover to make up a pipe from the brake master cylinder, no-one else seemed to keep one. I've just had a look & I have what I think is one, looks like 11mm, also have one that came of a Vauxhall that's about 12mm across, fine thread. Contact me if you can't get one & I could send you one up.

If there 7/16 UNF the motor factors should have them in stock, our local one does, costs about 20 pence each. Some master cylinder ones are bigger though, when we wanted one we had to go to LR for it. Still got one, measures 11mm across the threads, not sure if it's metric or imperial thread. Contact me if it helps you out.

Hmm, thinking about it I would just go to a motor factors and ask for a couple of every size. For pennies you not only get what you need for this job, but also a selection to use of future brake/clutch line repairs which you can expect as you already have the flaring tools and pipe.

Went to fit the throttle peddle and all the holes are in the wrong bloody place. To say I'm angry is an understatement. The brake holes better not be an issue either!
