its fixed now got the clutch slave cylinder chaged over and new fluid filled up and blead useing a oil can and filling from the bottom worked great no bleading needed

well got as far as trying to start the tdi today (strapped to pallet and fork lift) and no joy! looks like the compression is shot on the rear cylinder have checked the injectors and they work fine mate is bringing a compression tester tomorrow but its looking like a head off and see what the damage is job

well the pressure test was interesting. 410psi, 30psi, 20psi and 0psi! took the head off and there is 30tho wear on one of the cylinders time for a re-bore sump off and pistons out three have broken rings

are you planning a rebuild? if so i would be very interested of cost.

as ive a spare i was thinking of rebuilding, but at the time i needed my motor so bought another second hand tdi.

I'm planing to rebuild I'm at the crank out stage of the strip down and have got a price for a re bore (mates rates) all the parts are easily available will be useing +040 pistons and rings it does mean thought that i'm not fitting the engine this week as planed!

photo's of engine strip down. needed to make a home made puller to pull the pulley. the torque multiplier was a god send for the fly wheel bolts and the head bolts

we have but its not that great long bar is better once they were cracked off normal ratchet did the job

Thanks but i got sorted. I think i have most of what i need to get my rebuild on the way. Something maybe of interest, i had a set of the 6.5 inch rims which i galved and fitted 750 tyres, not sure if they will stick out over the arches, but they look and sound the part

I ran the shot blaster over my chassis, and it has rotted on the underside. They are that basic though i will probably just repair it, to keep it as original as possible. I think i still have templates kicking around for the rear half chassis and front dumb irons i made before.

i did think about repair but its had a rear cross member that's been welded on 50mm ****** all ready as well as a couple of outriggers and two big patches under the rear bump stops that i did after its last MOT so i decided i was just putting of the enitivable so a nice galvanised chassis has been ordered 6-8weeks lead time. picking it up my self thought £160 for delivery 100 miles!

A new one would be nice, not in my budget though. I find it quite satisfying repairing a chassis, and giving it another life. Here's an 88 i done recently, probably go the same route with the lightweight
