Sounds like a good plan, support rear of trailer if it hasn't got legs or leave hitched to something so it doesn't tip if your castors pass the balance point while extracting.

If it's a ring/nato hitch, fine, a ball hitch is not designed for upward loads

its a ball so will put a jack, big blocks of wood under the rear of the trailer. a future project of mine is to build a trailer with a NATO hitch probily using the rear axle in the photo and maybe the rear of a "spare" chassis i happen to have laying around

well i got it out! the chassis did half the job for me 2 miles from the workshop when the trailer hit a pot hole and broke a strap (last of the 500KG rubbish ones will not get anything less than 5T now) and the chassis rolled back slightly! lifted the rear with the engine crane and rolled the whole thing back then set the rear down lowered the tailgate and pushed.


the real work can start in the morning!

the plan is to get the bulkhead off tomorrow and try to get the engine out leaving the gearbox attached

Looks quite professional using 110V tools outside, shame the grinders are "wheel down"

is it painted with under seal. got the bulkhead off, engine and gear box out today need to think about how I'm going to get them into the new chassis as the engine crane is a bit to small! no rot in the bukhead so clean and galv is the way forward! small amount of rot in the top bulkhead so repair then galve that as well

yep i'm going to get a few bits done. did your chassis have bolts going downwards through the front of the dumb irons? (the ones that hold the bumper on on a civi) mine does but they don't seem to be connected to any thing?

There was none on mine either, but it was bolted on at other points.

the bolts are there on mine but not holding any thing!

same here. On civi trucks there's a rectangular block with 2 threaded holes to take the bolts? Maybe that just defenders?

the defender has the threaded block the holes are there on the new chassis as well maybe its just standardising dumb irons

Do the lifting eyes mount there? In the cutout in the bumper. I had the holes too before I remade the dumbirons, but then my chassis was a Rover 8 one modded. There were crush tubes in there. Kind of, more like rust tubes.
