i didn't think the chassis would be much use but you never know and its sods law after i have taken the gas axe to it someone will want it!

progress this week. both frount springs taken appart, derusted, painted and reassembled. one stub axle removed and swival houseings degreased cleaned up and part reassembled. have rebuilt one freewheeling hub. there was no bolt etc in the freewheeling hub so that had allowed the stub axle to move and rub on the hub houseing. as this is a millitry axle there is a tapped hole in the end that take a 1/4 unf bolt so with a big washer on the end that will now hold the stub axle in the right place.

progress update. still pluging away on the frount axle but the end is in sight! new wheel bearings on order as well as seals as they were nacked. the diff has a tooth missing on a planet wheel so have taken the diff out of the rear from the civi landy and thats in very good condition but very dirty so thats sat in a bucket of parafin at work at the moment. axle caseing has been cleaned up and painted so can now start on driver side hub so that once the bearings and seals land i can put the axle together and get it fitted!

i will. its the whole do i replace while i have it in bits on the bench or when its on the road and bugging me. but the hub bearings were bad before they got blasting grit in them . the back axle should be easyer as there is less work and i am makeing it better with bigger break hubs thats not as easy as i thorgh it was going to be

I thought they only had one size rear brakes?, I know you can upgrade the front with LWB drums.
I got fed up of cleaning the rear drums on the 90, would start squealing after a week or two so I fitted a disc braked axle from a defender!

no i mean the frount. the hubs are differnt to allow for the extra thinckness which means that the millitry halfshafts are short! even worse when you have free wheeling hubs.

I know the hub/drive is unique to the LW but is the axle casing narrower?, if not put a civi hub on.

ive put civi hubs on as i also needed civi halfshaft so i could hold the shaft inplace and stop the uj rubbing on the hub as they were free floating in the hub so were rubbing on the hub. glad i got a doner landy to get bits off!

update front axle done and ready to go on (when it stops p*****g it down) have started striping the paint off the bulkhead and found that the bottom part is solid and has had new foot wheels welded in (1/8 plate!) the top section how ever is a very different story. It has had a new bottom rail welded in then the rest built up with fing body filler! the whole of the bottom section is full of it

i know have been doing some searching! have made contact with a supplyer in northen irland who can supply a reconditioned unit galvanised for exceptible money. i feel that panel is passed my metal working skills

have got a vent panel sorted thanks to ghound. the only things to report at the moment is i'm sick of painting things olive drab! hopeing to get the bottom bulkhead sandblasted over the weekend and then pro painted which will form a good base and then i can brush paint green to keep it all looking the same!

building own have drawing so should be easy ish

I wired a IIA this year using a prefab wiring loom to the original spec just with a couple of modifications for an alternator and pre-engaged starter. If I was making one I would include a few more fuses than the standard loom.

the best bit about the fuses is there higher rated that the original starter motor can produce!
