you might well be right there is a cut out in the bumper. the bolts and the tubes have fused over time to be one!

the lifting eyes do go on the dumb irons then! i need to think of a way of putting the engine back in the frame struggled to get it out with th engine crane i have in order to get the capacity i had to keep the boom short but then i struggle to get the hight! at least on the new chassis i don't have the battery tray to clear

it lifted the engine and box out fine but the hight was a bit of an issues. might see if i can rustle up a telehandler to load the engine into the trailer for its trip to work for strip down

Can you make an "A" frame/tripod out of scaffolding with a chain block on?, lift engine and roll trailer underneath.

I have lifted a Ford V6 engine/box with a chainblock on a pice of RSJ clamped to a serious roofrack on my mates Sherpa van

that was another thought i think lad at work has something like that as when he moves engines the chain block from work goes on holiday

If that's an old Cologne or Essex lump I think they're some of the heaviest engines ever made! Heavier than a 5.7 litre all iron Chevy small block!

The bumpers come in 2 types, early ones, and when they went to 7.50 boots as standard the bumper got a different size cutout for the lifting eyes, and different standoffs inside, to give more clearance with the bigger tyres. Doesn't matter hardly but the guy that bought mine put little 600s on and with the bumper for 7.50s it doesn't look quite right...
Anyways, should be nice & strong there if the crush tubes are in etc.

its bad enough but fixable. I didn't want to have to keep taking it to bits for the next 5 years and then have to change the chassis. Prefer to stick a new one on and not worry bout it and flog the old one on (its on eBay)

If it were closer to home i would have that chassis! Your rebuild is going well, and all the better when you have SHMBO to help
It seems the more i get into my rebuild the more of a rivet counter i'm becoming, if something original can be saved, i do what i can to reuse it, i need to have my head looked at
Seeing it's a landy love in, here's few more pics of my attempted rebuild.
I stripped the original springs into individual leaves, shot blasted them along with the axle and rebuilt with new u-bolts etc, and i was happy i did cos the springs to be honest they came up like new, not bad for being 38 yrs old!
Repaired the vent panel ready for galv

pity you haven't got the right caps on the rear axle. i might get new rear springs as there was a lean on the old chassis. i have a series 3 bulkhead, and a good rear half chassis as well if you fancied a trip over I'd meet you at stranraw?

Might be worth the trip, as i need a s3 bulkhead for a customer! send me a pm with the details.
Your right about the end caps, there's a non standard on one side, i'm going to have to fish out another one.
From the pic of your old chassis, it looks like there's a lean to the drivers side towards the rear.
Also be careful of when replacing springs as there are some rubbish after market ones out there.

the bulkhead is fairly solid with as bit of work needed in foot well and the corners where the windscreen bolts onto (normal locations!) the rear cross member looks to have been replaced at some point and welded on my a one eyed drunk chimp! i might try swapping the springs over but I'm hoping with a straight chassis it sorts its self out

you can also have the rear of the chassis if you want it. its solid till the bulkhead mounts. Could do with knowing soon as if not the chassis get cut for scrap and weighed in as getting gruff for taking over the yard!

progress so far this week. have striped the front axle and have found a couple of problems! the axle has free wheeling hubs and as the hub end of the stub axle is free to move it has worn the hub casting slightly! so solution is to use the stub axles from the civilian one i have (hopefully 10 spline not 24) and find some new free-wheeling hubs or resort back to standard military driven members but they have gone upto £75 per side! or see about machining a brass/ bronze (have lots of both at work) washer to stop it wearing. have also set to on the leaf springs striping them down and shot blasting each leaf
