I wasnt there but they had a plant in Welwyn Garden City for a while but I dont know if they made equipment. They made rods and maybe wire.

i think so .the brass plate on it says welwyn garden .il double check but 99 percent sure .unless its rebadged ??got an early mig as well.200amp arcmaker i think with a sprite wire feeder .

I think they were badged for some reason but never actually made there. The WGC plant was GKN Lincoln Electric not The Lincoln Electric Co. There was some reason behind the different names but its all very confusing. There was also Lincoln Electric Europe in Luton and Big 3 Lincoln in Scotland........I had the job of trying to amalgamate all this mess and I couldnt understand the differences.

The Arcmakers were GKN and no connection to Lincoln except for the name.........until the real Lincoln bought it back from Esab

i checked today and all three are badged as made in welwyn garden city. the mig ,sae 300 and the shieldarc .the sae is named as a gkn .i have pictures so il try n put some on ?

The change from Lincoln Electric to GKN Lincoln Electric happened in about 1966 (I think) so the old badge is between 1936 and 1966. GKN Lincoln changed to ARCOS Lincoln probably in the 80s and was bought by ESAB maybe early 90s..........Lincoln had to buy back the LINCOLN name (only in the UK) sometime in the early 90s......until then we were LINCOLN WELDRO

Someone told me that the Management thought the UK would become Communist so they got out as soon as they could. Im not sure if this is true or even logical. McCarthy and the US Witch Hunt for Communists was in the 1950s so if they were scared it would have happened then. But I dont know and they dont mention it but they mention Rouen France and Australia as starting around the same time.

yes very complicated .but interesting though .thanks for the information ..i figured the bullet was older just by the badge .. luckily ive a ton of spares .bought the bullet of a welder repair shop n he gave me all there old stock .even have a few new of the printed discs to show the amp ranges etc .

almost certain itl be dc. even if it has a yellow 110volt skt itl be dc .ours is and itl hurt your power tools

has it a smaller motor looking part thats fixed to the end of the main big generator?? on your pictures it shows a motor cover poking out the machine under the control panel. thats the 110 generator which provides 110dc oulet power and it also excites the main welding generator .. if that makes sense ???

kinda but I got sockets on the back which was driven off a belt drivien dynamo but I'll have to look in to that

ah right im with you .wondered when you said itd been taken .. im looking into fitting an ac generator to run 110 . we have a few cordless grinders so get away with needing it on the machine
