When I did the V5 transfer into my name it said I had to tax it so followed the link and as it's historic class it cost £0 to tax it for a year

Don’t forget that you have to tax it every year, even though it’s £0. I know someone who got a reminder/ threat from DVLA about their tractor not being taxed or sorned ..

On white diesel obviously! Quite surprising just how many of these are still working. This new fangled electronic jiggery pokery wont be the same

Dad's is actually on white at the moment, there was a reason for it but can't remember now. Still allowed red for charity runs though.

Have a bit of a soft spot for these myself, my folks had two MF35s, one TVO, one 3-cylinder diesel.

Both sold now and awaiting collection. I wouldn't have minded keeping one of them but that idea, er, wasn't very popular with the management...

Too big for the workshop so I have to work outside weather permitting, an hour or so with wire cup brush and flap disk had it ready for painting, I did burn out one grinder, but being a good forum member I have spare grinders

A couple of coats of my favourite Blackfriars red oxide primer.

Followed by two coats of Ferguson grey enamel.

Just got to wait a few days for the paint to harden then I can turn it over and repeat the process on the bottom.

I don't think it will be carrying much weight, it will mainly be used to carry electric fencing stuff, so plastic posts and rolls of fence tape

While waiting for the paint to dry I tackled the dynamo which wasn't working when I got the tractor. Small voltage from the field windings but nothing when linked to the brushes which pointed to problems with the brushes or rotor.

Pulled it apart and tested the rotor windings (the green dot is my start point) all tested OK

Brushes were seized solid in the carriers and one spring had broken.

¼" drive extension used to support the brush wire terminal while using the old hammer powered impact driver.

New springs took 4 weeks to arrive, spot what's wrong the spring on the right is the correct type.

So they sent me a replacement pair, two different springs again, I now have 3 different springs, luckily 2 of them are the right type.

Found some NOS genuine Lucas brushes on Ebay for a couple of quid more than the thousands of Chineseum knockoffs.

New brushes and springs fitted.

I have a few old credit cards for spreading filler, glue etc. they worked a treat to hold the brushes out while sliding them onto the comm.

Finished assembly and tested, works great apologies for the blurred image, I was holding the camera left handed while using my right to hold the drill spinning the dynamo.

the engine was used in standard vangaurd and triumph tr cars

i doubt that youl ever use it on parrafin
remember the exhaust fumes nipped your eyes badly if you do it needs to be realy hot and turned over to petrol before you stop it

Coming along nicely. I reckon that the component level repair/refurb is often more satisfying somehow than the overall finished vehicle or machine.

Seeing that dynamo job takes me back 50 years. Did a few of those on old Anglia's and Mk 1 Cortina's. I remember cleaning out the slots in the commutator with a sharpened hacksaw blade. Eee them were the days!

Fergie update...

Fitted the repaired dynamo and voltage regulator that I had to re-attach the rubber mounts to.

Started the engine, the charge warning light went out as it should and a meter across the battery showed a voltage increase as it started to charge

Tried the freshly painted linkbox but I will have to remove the towball as it catches on the back (and scratched my new paint )

I gave it a good workout today with a couple of hours harrowing the paddock, it would have been an hour but Mrs Robo volunteered me to do her mates paddock next door, oh well it's only an extra gallon of premium petrol

Next task will be to get the tank off and clean out the TVO part so I can burn cheaper fuel.

Chap I spoke to a few years ago said he used 4/1 parafin/petrol as a TVO mix. Does that sound familiar?

Sounds about right and some add a bit of 2 stroke oil to the mix.
