To buy seasoned, cut, logs in from any registered log supplier is almost certainly going to cost significantly more than gas, oil or electric heating (heat pumps with decent COP).
I quite understand - but for how much longer will it be cheaper?Clearly that is not the case across the country. Round here I get 1 cubic m of kiln dried logs for ~ £100. That is much cheaper for us to use than our gas central heating.
Is that loose or in builders bags. Std size Builder bags loose filled are £60-£90. The place I get mine bigger than the std B-bags. Costing £120-140 around 350kg per bag.Clearly that is not the case across the country. Round here I get 1 cubic m of kiln dried logs for ~ £100. The free market will decide that, unless skewed by some new law that is probably being dreamed up currently.I quite understand - but for how much longer will it be cheaper?
23?Gas is cheaper but sometimes using a wood burner to provide heat when and where you need it is cheaper.
My house has 23 radiators. I run the wood burner all the time. Parts of the house are freezing - but they are parts we don't use anyway. Even with the thermostatic radiator valves turned right down you still get some heat where you don't need it with central heating.
And probably make all the same mistakes again.Last estimate I saw was that there was about 600 years worth of coal under the UK at the current energy consumption. So after the Armageddon, we will be able to restart the industrial revolution.
plenty of the black stuff under my feet locally ..........last decent mine closed 15 years ago, to replaced by a couple of dozen low paid "green" jobs on a site which employed hundreds of well paid jobs for generations. Some of my relatives were kicked out when it closed.......On a brighter/blacker note, local place, Aberpergwm still producing coal and well paid jobs after 110years.....and countingLast estimate I saw was that there was about 600 years worth of coal under the UK at the current energy consumption. A bag only lasts me 4 to 5 days - good job my wood is freeIs that loose or in builders bags. Std size Builder bags loose filled are £60-£90. The place I get mine bigger than the std B-bags. Costing £120-140 around 350kg per bag.
Yes probably the only proper mine left - and it is nice steam coal.plenty of the black stuff under my feet locally ..........last decent mine closed 15 years ago, to replaced by a couple of dozen low paid "green" jobs on a site which employed hundreds of well paid jobs for generations. Loose, of course the more you buy the cheaper it is. Also heats you up twice, once when stacking it and once when burning it.Is that loose or in builders bags. Std size Builder bags loose filled are £60-£90. The place I get mine bigger than the std B-bags. Costing £120-140 around 350kg per bag.
If I could tell the future I wouldn't be thinking about the cost of wood or gas.I quite understand - but for how much longer will it be cheaper?
You know what ' thought thought' .Epic?
Epic destruction more like.
Since Germany got rid of it's last 3 nuclear power stations their CO2 has gone through the roof. So much for all their renewables.
Germany is now putting out as much as 700gm per kw CO2
France are between 20 and 40gm. The difference is mind blowing and yet France is facing fines for not having enough renewables I thought the goal was to reduce CO2 emissions?
I dumped the wood stove in my workshop when I realised I was getting warmer keeping the b****y thing alight than from the stove itself.Loose, of course the more you buy the cheaper it is. Also heats you up twice, once when stacking it and once when burning it.
I asked my mate who gives me all the free pallet wood if he had a woodburner. No chance he said. I see enough bloody pallets in the day. Gas is cheap and cleanI dumped the wood stove in my workshop when I realised I was getting warmer keeping the b****y thing alight than from the stove itself.

White man build big fire. Keep warm collecting wood
The kids and missus were nowhere to be seen when I was unloading the tonne of pellets in 15kg bags from the pickup to the boiler room around the back of the house.White man build big fire. Keep warm collecting wood
