Is that the capacitor on top of that motor? It's BIG.....

I think so. Not to clued up with electric stuff. It was all wired .I just kept it all together .it runs through and on and off switch and an earth wire that goes to the plate .

Morning guys.
Finally got the motor and switch wiring done thanks to the help on here. Motor installed and ready for it's first power up. Once all is good I can then finish off the adjustment bracket. Cut down the thread adjusters and make some hand wheels for them and install the Dowel pins. Nearly there now.

Does the motor have a data plate ? If its a 1 1/2hp you might getaway with a 10a fuse in the plug.
Motor will have probably around 7a FLC.

It's 1.5 hp. I can take a picture of the plate.

Will have it running today. Just got to connect belts and fill the spindle chambers up with hydraulic oil. Now do I remove the spindle to fill the chambers up or pour from the top oilers until it comes out from the lower bearings

It lives !!!! Finally got it all working . A few minor issues like the cam belt needs to be slightly longer. But other than that all good.
Got a new tool post to sort and then I can start turning some metals.

They used to be huge back in the day. Here's the one off my Wolf 6" grinder, it almost fills the entire casting!

What's better is that it still works perfectly!

Evening guys.
Had the lathe running on and off today just setting things up. It's nice to use and you can definitely feel how rigid the machine is. But I have a problem. What is acceptable run out on a chuck. Mine has a noticeable wobble. I have had it apart and all is like new inside. I have also tried rotating the chuck on its bolt pattern. I placed a dial indicator and tried to get it accurate. But still wobbles . The spindle is good and clean. I did take a video on the chuck running that I will upload to utube .video called Mellor lathe first run.

If you mark the high side then take it out and turn does the high still match the high side of the chuck body.

Yes. I tried that on all six bolt holes.

Thanks zx9. Am chuffed. I just been going through the lot again. Had the chuck off and teeth out. But it's almost gone but still a fraction out. I have used two centres. One in the chuck and one in the tailstock. When they meet you just see the chuck centre revolving around the other. Only a fraction. It could be the scroll is slightly worn or the jaws. As good as Taylor chucks are it's still old.
