cool, its weird that not many uk sprayers are willing to let on the process of spraying, all the tricks of the trade and stuff, i was having to use www.autobody101.com for info but these all use 2pack and are happy to do it next door to some fussy neighbours.

im currently an aircraft technician but find it hideously boring, bodywork is so calming and therapeautic (spelling?) Even the sanding, but i suppose that when you are on a "time is money" basis i bet it isnt quite so nice!!!!

Still need to make adjustments to the gun, still dont fully feel at home with the settings and how they are effecting each other, gonna have to dedicate some time to that....... ITs hard not to jump straight in though!

I'll keep you updated as to how the the colour sanding and buffing comes out,

1 question, i wont be going to bare metal on the whole bonnet and most of its fine, i will on the dent to to apply filler etc,

when prepping the original colour, do you "WET" sand the old paint?

As when i was drying to drysand with P600 the wing yesterday it was just clogging......

dry sanding clogging is very likely dirt/grease/polish on the panel.

as i said before i like dry sanding using "fre-cut" paper.
how big is that dent??
try that roller trick first.it's very hard to hide dents/filler on the bonnet.
but yes flat org paint well, i would go as far as starting to see org primer grinning through.

ah right i see, i was going to DA it first, not sure yet, the dent is small, like a hail stone or something, its near the creases thats the truoble, i will get to it from the back though, and go at it with a rollor, i do have a hammer and dolley set but i am a total amateur.

It will have been polish then, is there a sugar water trick or something? infact i think you said that? if you did dont bother answering i'll go back through the thread haha!!

One thing though jaykay, still struggling with "dry spots" is it possibly where im not overlapping????

also do they do sticky back fre-cut????

Or can i use spray adhesive to stick them to my blocks/??

Double sided sticky backed plastic is handy for that.

yes,thats the only one,sticky back.try not to use a hammer&dolly.you can stretch the metal very easily,but that's another problem.
over lap should be 50%try not to move to fast,set up a rhythm.silly,but i hum,sing to my self while spraying.that's to set a rhythm.

Also got a Genuine VW Rear Panel om its way, as its the only panel that needs replacing on the car, really hard to get hold of these panels, its the whole rear end of the car!!!!!

So might get a new thread up in the mig section as i spose thats a mini project in itself....

I just typed this out then the compute crashed. Grrrr, anyway, my first panel is nearly finished (Could do with a bit more flatting in places, the only imperfections that arent going to be "fixable" with wet n dry are the ones i knew about after the disaster when the paint wasnt mixed last time around, other than that the only mistake i made was the polishers pad dried out and it "burnt through" on an edge but the bumper will more than cover it when it is installed.

Im really chuffed, the depth of shine is awesome (where it is completely finished) and with some wax it will be spot on, first i went at it with 1500 then 200 grit wet with fairy liquid,

then went with fast cut plus and then fine cut compound.

HEres the pics.

Any comments welcome, i will be flatting it a bit more soon, probably when its on the car.....

i'm proud of you.
i did try and warn you about burning the edges,hope you learned something there.
dont put polish on for a few days,let the paint surface harden after cutting it.

thanks guys, perhap a wing wasnt the easiest shape to tackle with a rotary as a virgin attempt but it turned out well, yes i'll wait a week for the way so go on, im thinking of actually going for the door next..... think i'll get some 80grit da discs, mmm, or some paint stripper.....

maybe paint stripper.....

Anyway, thanks for everything jaykay. I ask laods of questions i know, but i dont see the point in "guessing" when people know better, i cant stand people guessing who i work with, just ask!!!

Anyway, a quick question....

When "blending cellulose" ....

If i was to just spot repair as a temporary measure, would you P600 the whole panel? and then just spray where you are repairing? I imagine this would be far too coarse and take too much paint off the rest of the panel would it?

Or do you just block the area you are spraying with 600? how do you do it???????

Its only temporary until i build a booth for the non removable panels....

only reason celly is eaasier for a first time user u just mix it 50/50 with thinners and away you go,but if i where you id go 2pack all the way,after a bit of practice your should be getting a near enuff perfect finish that requires minimal flatting an polishing,it will last alot better than celly,if you got the compressor to run a spray gun for a full repaint you should invest in a air fed mask(wilson ones on ebay for £120 buy it now with free delivery an there made by same people as the devilbiss ones jus badged up different an different colour) or i myself use the gersen ones that are 2k complaint if im painting at home an just use them for say one repaint an then throw them as there only about £17 pound.just make sure you have plenty of ventilation an i mean plenty.need any more help just ask

also forgot to say easy way to set up gun,have the matterial fan fully open , unwind the fluid knob quite far then pull and hold the trigger back all the way,then wind the fluid nob back in till it stops movin an u will feel it hit the trigger,as for air pressure pretty much every painter i know uses 2bar at the gun with the trigger fully open,move the gun so you wet the panel as you hit it an overlap each pass by about 50% i love painting
