Moggy traveller rebuild

We converted the front brakes on my friend's Woody with a kit he bought. It now has vented Sierra front brakes. It is sat in his dad's garage at the moment needing some TLC on the wood but it looks like it will have to wait for a while due to lack of funds.

The wood can be expensive, for good quality youre looking at around £1000 including the doors. Then it has to be varnished, new window runners, roof guttering etc and the interior wood is seperate costing another £80 plus.
Then of course when the wood is removed you normally find a load of welding.
Its a good project though you have to be part welder part carpenter.

This was yesterday 24/8 the kids had helped me remove whatever we could and now its ready for undercoat.

Today 25/8 the cab got its top coat.

would love to do something like that but i would have it completely shot blasted get every bit of rot out and find the thin metal

looks like the easy job will be the restore the hard work is to get it out of there by the looks of it

Its been a while as i have to work out on the drive and the winter stopped work on the body, however i have treated and varnished the wood. The wood has had 4 coats of cuprinol 5 star preservative and 5 coats of LeTonkinois varnish. So now i have some more photos.

The last pictures show the side loosely put in place, couldnt resist looking what it was like on the car, (was supposed to be trial fitting the front wing )
Thats all of them for now just waiting for some parts and i can carry on.

I think it looks very good.
I've never worked on a travellor, well not a morris anyhow, but got to work on a mini travellor once with mini machine, along with loads of other nice mini.

They used to send the shells away to be blasted then start from there.
Keep up the good work though.
As soon as i get somewhere to do a rebuild thats next on my list.

It wasnt meant to be a full rebuild when i started, the wood was going to be replaced eventually but i was only going to replace the one rear spring hanger and got carried away.
It would have been nice to have the body dipped or bead blasted but lack of funds and lack of space for all the parts wouldnt allow for that. I originally bought this car to use while i was doing the numerous repairs on my range rover but as its in bits and the range rover decided to give even more problems i had to go out and get a replacement car that has restricted funds even more. Lucky i have most the parts now.

I've never rebuilt one but as I said earlier in the thread I helped a friend of mine to change the front brakes to a disk set up on the one they have. The new wood looks really good and the car should be a nice usable classic when it's finished.

Well impressed, how does the tent/fabric spray booth thingy work?

It doesnt cover the whole car but it covered all that i needed and it did stop the dust and light showers and it kept any spray mist inside (and off the house windows). I didnt pay as much as the one in the link i got it off e-bay for £35 just for that job. But it takes some practice to put it up, took 4 of us an hour first time we looked like the key stone cops, everyone round here had a good laugh.

pedrobedro that disc conversion is getting more common now along with fitting a servo, i will probably do it myself in the future as my daughter has claimed the car when she can drive. The other conversion i wouldnt mind is the sierra 5 speed box but thats a way off yet.
I will definately keep the photos comming but i will be out of action for a couple of weeks due to a minor op on my foot week on monday.
When its all back together i am making the trim wood myself for the inside out of English Oak thats already in the shed waiting to be shaped.

Got a few more pictures, wooden sides are now secured and ally panels fitted.
Also the roof supports and rear wings, the doors are just held in place to help square up the frame.
Tomorrow i can start prepping the front wings after i have replaced the cam seal on the disco.
