I trap in hay fields and prefer the Talpex scissor style traps. There are lots of poor copies around, it’s worth paying a few quid more for genuine Talpex - well made and galvanized to last a lifetime (that’s if if you can remember where you set them ! I always push in a marker stick alongside with a couple of turns of blue electricians tape).

Don’t worry about finding too straight a length of tunnel, the critical thing is cut out a section of sod that is no longer than the trap. Keeping it a snug fit means the mole can not bypass the jaws as it comes through the hole.

yes but flood the hole with propane the gas may kill them but add oxygen bung some wire wool in the entrance hole a length of cable and a car battery and boom one blown up run good for rats as well its just what ive been told mind its illegal

If the anvil trick doesn't work, your other option is to paint some fake molehills on your lawn and paint a picture of a train tunnel with a light at the end of it on your house wall.

When the mole comes out, it'll see the tunnel picture, think a trains coming and leg it. Thinking safety lies under the nearest mole hill, it'll make towards your painted mole hills. But when it tries to dive down your fake hole, it'll get knocked unconscious on the hard ground and you can then dispatch of it via your new anvil.

Seriously, I can't see an issue with either of my plans. Not only will you get rid of the mole, but you'll also have a new anvil and some class video footage to flog to you tube.

If you need any advice on getting rid of other pests, catching pigeons, or winning wackyraces by cheating, just ask.

@truckdoctor. You have a female mole. they find a nice patch and stay there. Where as Males are loners, they dig straight lines from one female to the next.

(Joke time. Driving past a line of dead moles hung on a fence by the mole catcher to prove his worth. Our lass asked me why they were there. I told her the moles ate all the goodness out the ground. Once caught the farmer would hang them on the fences for the sheep to eat. She believed me for years until she explained the reason to someone less gulable. )

I remember years back in out early 20's my junior brother telling me that German Army Moleskin shirts were made of the skins of Moles.
Got quite stroppy when I pointed they would have needed prairie sized mole ranches.

No one has posted this yet but apparently marshmallows are very effective mole poison. I know a few people who swear by it. A couple of marshmallows down a mole hill and just leave it there

Being unserious again, I'd be tempted to buy that Anvil someone was flogging on here the other day and go at it Roadrunner styleeee.

Precariously suspended anvil, sign pointing to pile of mole food, and bobs your uncle. I can't imagine what could possibly go wrong.

You jest but over on the buildhub forum I sent a chap some magnetic door releases, big hefty ones. He had an aggressive pheasant kept attacking its own reflection on the front door of his passive esque new house. There was half a plan to try a Wile E. Coyote method with an infra red trip dropping a weight.

As a few know from November too about may I catch moles for a living, gotten quite good at it too 154 their in a week and that’s about a normal week I try and average 5-600 a month
