Our cat used to fetch them in and let them go! Great fun chasing one around at 3 in the morning

The speed of digging a hole when you find them topside is amazing. You can be yards away, and it will have gone by the time you get to it

If any of you have seen the garden ornament where a little blacksmith hammers on an anvil every time the breeze blows the little wind vane round, you have been looking at a mole scarer. Moles hunt earthworms and other bugs by listening to the sound they make, if there is other sound underground they can't hunt, and will move away from it. I used to use lengths of 1/4" reinforcing steel with a pet bottle threaded over them, and vanes cut in the side of the bottle so they spun in the wind. every time the mole moves away from them, move them towards the new area and he will soon leave! absolutely no need to kill them!

Camping in the new forrest when one came right through the middle of our camp just below the surface, pushing up a little ridge of turf as it went.

It was amazingly fast, just like the ones in old cartoons, which I thought were exaggerated but they're not. .

Just for fun I stuck a couple of tent pegs in behind it and a couple in front of it to trap it so the kids might get to see a real one.

We took the top of the tunnel off and it was gone, we reckoned it must have gone straight down!

We saw one ding the same, followed the trail & it ran straight into a buried concrete block!

Are you allowed to hunt cormorant? I'd have thought they were protected.

They are, we got special permits to shoot 6 on a trout fishery and well waste not want not!

Why kill the poor little blighters? Not hurting anyone just makes the garden look untidy!
We sometimes get an invasion of woodmice. Now they DO cause havoc. Chewed through a waterpipe - what idiots use plastic pipes in a country house? Anyway we were lucky and heard it go - under bath so easy access. I use live traps and then drive them 2 miles away and release in the forest near a picnic site. Even take a supply of nuts for them

Garden moles only make up about 2% of my count a year the rest being farm moles. Damage to mowing grass contaminated silage causing listeriosis in sheep at cattle is the main reason, one mole hill can contaminate one ton of grass silage once it’s been thru the Tedder and forager.
Grass silage is to valuable to waste these days, back when a lot of farmers made hay it wasn’t too bad the soil would shake out the grass during rowing and baleing but not with silage
