MW 5800 Torch spares

I use the cooler from my TIG but that needs switching on manually and it’s a noisy bastard.
And I still need some spare parts for my water cooled Lorch gun. I have a 7800

I'm now the other way around. The S3 has cooler on demand. The TIG one is manually switched on and it feels old-fashioned and noisy

@matt1978 have you got a part number for a carbon/Teflon liner?

I still need to sort out a cooler and the spares for that torch too.

Binzel part No. 128.M004 (4m) fits all binzel stuff AFAIK

You can screw the brass end off and re-use with a new PA/teflon liner, too.

When I went up to Camarc, I got some longer HD binzel tips for steel and they’re great. Bring the tip nearer the front of the shroud. I might see if they do those in 1.2mm and order them.

The tips weren’t bad actually pack of 25 was about £30

I still have trouble with the wire burning back too far causing a long arc which I have to offset by going to about -12 on the arc length control. But perhaps that’s down to a 4m torch, who knows.

I switched to a "new" reel of 5356 tonight and it was instantly crap. Instability, sooty, long arc, burn backs, I changed the material program to a different alloy grade and it made it better but still rubbish compared to before. Its a reel of Sif wire that the seller threw in. Its maybe just old and oxidized, but either way I'll have to get rid of it

I've always ran cheap alloy wire haha, mostly super6 which is supposed to be even cheaper than Sif?
Always had great results with it too...

Really? I don’t know if you’ll get away with it on pulse it’s all about the arc being stable

Super 6 ran fine for me for years with standard spray and was actually ok as well on pulse. I got some EWM wire and it was noticeably nicer. Esab was also good, slightly better than the Super6 but not as good as the EWM, the Esab required a touch more voltage offset than the EWM wire.
EWM seemingly had consistency issues with their supplier, no idea who they were, so has now changed to a French supplier and man that is sweet stuff, they are called Mig Weld, link below. Whether it will run as sweet on a Lorch as it does on the EWM I have no idea but if you can find it I would say give it a go.

Really? I don’t know if you’ll get away with it on pulse it’s all about the arc being stable

I'll try out the 1mm super6 wire I have and see what it's like... Worked well on the Miller pulse
I have a feeling it was nice wire that came with the S3 though. Was a steel wire basket, no identification unfortunately.
I'd buy a full reel of esab wire, but alloy mig jobs don't come in enough for me to justify it... Not the cost, but the fact that it'll sit there oxidising and wasting. At least I can buy super6 in 2kg packs.

ESAB do 2kg packs.

check there is a program for 1mm wire.

ESAB, Bohler, EWM all make good wire. EWM is rebranded, Italian or German wire if I remember correctly.

Good stuff should actually be 7Kg which makes it not much more expensive, if any, than the likes of Super6

Yeah it's not the cost that bothers me, its how it'll store over possibly 2 years as a part reel - surely it'll oxidize. That's why I've always bought in small reels. Having said that, quality wire does tend to last a lot better than cheap...
