Yeah it's not the cost that bothers me, its how it'll store over possibly 2 years as a part reel - surely it'll oxidize. Having said that, quality wire does tend to last a lot better than cheap...

It usually comes vac packed or at least sealed with a wee bag of silica, put it back in the bag with the silica and it will be fine.

If you keep it dry (Low humidity and warm) it won’t oxidise any worse than it does in the time it gets to tour hands.

The 33mm “longer” tips are suited to Stainless steel. All of our SpeedPulse, SpeedTwin-Pulse, SpeedPulse-XT and TwinPulse-XT synergic lines were wrote using the 33mm tip.

So the longer tips won’t make a difference on aluminium?

When I buy a carbon teflon liner it usually comes with the brass spiral.

They will help in the sense that you’ve got a longer area of contact.

Any “combi” liner should have a detachable brass spiral on.

They do the Black ones which are harder wearing but not quite frictionless and then the Red plastic ones which the wire glides over better but are far less robust

See Jim or Andy, the ones I get from them are good and much better than the red teflon ones or at least I found they were.

The one you have you will be able to unscrew the brass end off the red liner. That’s why it’s called Combi, as in combination between the Plastic and Brass.

I always get mixed up, but when I refer to Black, I mean the Carbon Teflon liner. It’s a very rigid liner compared to the PTFE

Is there much difference between PA and carbon liners? I've used PA before and they're great, definitely sturdier than red teflon. Not sure if I've used carbon before.

They work better for me, whether there would be much difference if talking 3 or 4m I am not sure but over the 8m I do notice the difference.

Well... I decided to bite the bullet and got a reel ordered through RH Davey website... price for EWM, Esab and Bohler 7kgs all very similar really. I'll just have to pack it up well with silica when I'm done with it

Will be good to see if it runs as nice on the Lorch as it does on the EWM.

So I put the 1.0mm super6 wire on the Lorch tonight, and it doesn't run any nicer than the sifmig wire. Have I got used to Speedpulse this quickly? It seemed to run just fine on the Miller pulse program. I've only tried Speedpulse and speed twinpulse. I'll try standard pulse tomorrow and see if it runs more like the Miller did.

Either way, it maybe shows how important wire quality is for proper digital pulse migs... Hope the EWM wire makes a difference when it gets here!

Good wire is good wire and bad is bad. I have some SIF Mig Ali wire at work and it runs fine. I’d doubt it was the wire if your not having any luck with 2 reels from different manufacturers.

what issues are you encountering? (Although I never run 1.0mm Ali wire)

It's spattery and I have to adjust the arc length to +15 to get a long enough arc. It runs smoother in single pulse than twin. No instability or burn backs, though.
It just seems so strange compared to how it ran with the previous wire, which was an absolute dream.

I did do something stupid that I'll own up to, though. The first time I threaded the SIF wire (straight after the good wire) I looked at it, thought it was clean enough, and ran off the top layer through the inch function. It must have been covered in crap, because when I pulled that wire out and put the 1mm in, it pushed so much crud up the liner while inching that it got to the brass join and plugged the liner solid! Like, absolutely rock solid. I had to write the liner off, and fitted a new one. I'll try the SIF wire again, because it wasn't fair on it running through crap in the liner, it could go a long way to explaining the instability and burn backs.

Try a 1.0mm tip.

Is the new wire you have bought 1.2mm? Which grade?

For your 1.0mm definitely use a 1.0mm tip of you can. 1.2a tip on 1.0mm wire would be like throwing a sausage up an alley.

If you was having to go to +15 on the arc length it sounds like it’s dropping voltage somewhere. (Most likely the contact tip
Due to bad contact, esp if oversize)

however the arc length reference is subjective, you shouldn’t have to put it to +15 as that will be masking an other issue but in real terms +15 probably only increased the welding voltage by around 2.5 volts.
