****** off waiting for the council. Rang them today they said they’d been there and couldn’t see the black bags which had been dumped!

Shifted about 3 ton of hardcore, 1 ton of earth and small stuff from the garden and about 20-25 x 25kg bags of cement (which had gone off) into a local farmers trailer (it was full when it left) then took the mixed waste up the local refuse site once my son in law who works there got clearance for 2 journeys with the car trailer.
Most pleased now if somewhat aching!

Now just have to balance up the need to complete my ground works and my personal need to make the most of the weather and get out on the MT10
Maybe I’ll do a bit next week!

Just bought a K-Tech rear shock for it and set up the front suspension, it now inspires so much confidence it’s unreal! Handles like a sportsbike!

So today I got the remaining eco drains in. Slightly different approach this time. Last time I just dumped a load of wet concrete in the hole and shook the drain until it was roughly in the right place. However, the plastic drain and excess water coming out of the concrete made the drain float! I ended up holding them down with breeze blocks and it was just hard work!

This time I hooked on the starting end after hammering 2 x rebar pegs to a finishing depth on the extremity of each piece so the drain was balancing on both pegs in its final position along its whole length.
Then using a float I packed concrete from both sides and poked it under the drain filling the void, then with an off cut of timber compacted it down starting at the furthest point from the start, then once the void had all been filled I went back to my furthest point and started filling the fillet along the sides and floated it all as I went until I joined the previous (now cured) concrete. All good until my grandson decided to come over with my lad and walk though it all leaving pretty footprints in the curing cement. (I was only grabbing a torx socket for my lad.....not happy as it was finished!). Cest la vie eh!

I tidied up the prints as best I could whilst my lad made a swift exit!

Anyway, here’s the fruits of my labour today and just the piece of slab left at the far end tomorrow and all my work is then inside the garden. Can’t wait!

Excellent stuff....that garage is crying out for a nice steel gate along the entire front where the drain is.

We have the same issue with fly tipping....our alley is private land so the council refused to move the waste.....then they issues us with an environmental notice to get it moved....cheek!

TBH any waste fly tipped now will be more manageable and since laying these slabs not one piece of dog **** has been deposited there!

On to today’s work then.
I tied some rebar to the stubs sticking out from the last section, stuck some polythene in the hole and got to work mixing. 4 full loads was exactly what was required with none left over and thankfully no extra needed to fill in!

When that was curing I decided to throw 0.5l of cream rustoleum paint on to the door but promptly ran out half way up (and it was thinned 50/50 with acetone. Never mind another 2.5l on order. I also made a new gate catch for the garden gate as the old one was worn out. Just finished the final float on the now almost hard concrete surface.

Finally have a use for this old stainless door I had from work over 12 years ago! Been stashed ever since. Dug out and dropped in a small footing to support a 180x220 pillar which will also be tied in to the corner pier of the front garage wall so it’ll not be going anywhere. Front pier will look interesting though!

So, today I made a start on the garage wall and entrance pillar. The pillar has to double as the door pillar for the stainless gate hence the t-shape.

Not bad eh? Haven’t done blockwork since I built the last garage and that was maybe 15 years back. Not hard though is it, my biggest problem seems to be consistent beds and gaps. Getting there though. Probably won’t do any more now until I get back from offshore on 23rd. Down the van tomorrow evening until late Sunday. May just be able to squeeze in some bike time in the morning?

I can imagine.
It's crazy really, I don't NEED this extra garage and most would be happy at one, BUT this will allow me the opportunity to get stuck into the camper once more and I'll have a clean space for all my bike stuff. Really can't wait. Hope that it'll be completed this year, and no reason why it shouldn't be. It'll be nice to be able to get onto the bike with all my kit on and just lift the door, ride out and drop the door behind me without stressing about anything and having to go and get changed whilst the bike is sat out the front. It's the little things I suppose.

Got my rustoleum paint from eBay and mixed it 50/50 with acetone and this is the outcome. Most impressed!

Not a bad finish either!

Did you mix the concrete for the big slabs yourself in that wee belle mixer?
I've thought about doing the same as I don't really have access to my back yard for a concrete lorry.
How big a slab could 2/3 men do comfortably ?

done by a builders wheel barrow 2 men mixed all day using 1 1/2 bags of sand and gravel and cement added into the mix

5" thick to 6" at left edge no sore backs and comfortable using a builders hoe

My son in law works for a large groundwork’s company who do a lot of concrete but the slab was done by the both of us in two sections a few months apart. Total size 5.8m x 3.25. I was mixing and my SIL doing the fill and smoothing off. It was working with him that gave me the confidence to try the smaller sections on my own.
The main sections of the slab were started around 10 or 11am and before 2pm we were floating them off.
The ringbeam was also done by us two with the mixer you see in the pics and another petrol same sized belle. The only reason I’m now using the battered one is because it’s mine.
The smaller slabs at the front of the garage were done by me alone and took roughly 1.5-2 hours of mixing but there was a lot of hanging about as I babysat them all afternoon and kept floating them off and kept working them until you could basically touch them without leave no prints in them , this was pretty much 5-6 hours stood around. They’re roughly 2m x 1.9m give or take as they’re not all the same size, the width varied as I found my way ad my confidence grew.

Why did you mix the paint with acetone?

Quicker flash off and dry time and as the Rustoleum is oil based it mixes just fine. Tried brushing this stuff on before and rollering it and in any large quantities it runs like feck. A cheap £8 spray gun and a reasonably good compressor and acetone and it goes on easy.
