Acetone helps with the shine too I think. I read about it on a few US car forums. It seems a lot of country hicks paint their cars with it with a roller as it’s pretty cheap! £30 for 2.5L and mixing 50/50 sees it go along way.

Quicker flash off and dry time and as the Rustoleum is oil based it mixes just fine. Tried brushing this stuff on before and rollering it and in any large quantities it runs like feck. A cheap £8 spray gun and a reasonably good compressor and acetone and it goes on easy.

I see, thanks for that. I'm just starting out with fab so thought I'd ask and learn something. I like Rustoleum paints myself, but have only used it out of rattle cans so far.

No probs. I wouldn’t paint a quality car with oil based paint but metalwork I have no issue with. Rather Rustoleum than Hammerite.

I did this sign for the wife’s salon last year. Still looks good.

Rattle cans work out expensive if you have the option of a compressor and a cheap gun.

Didn’t do anything yesterday as I got a little distracted with a BMW 525D M-Sport which was for sale locally, ended up purchasing it for a very good price. High miles but well maintained.
Anyway, got an early start today as I didn’t want to be out in the afternoon sun like I was on Tuesday. I was totally drained!
So today I finished the previous course and threw a further course in then called it a day but only after checking to see if the door fits! Gonna cut off the top hopper as it’s not needed.. also need to find a mis-measured window and adjust my next course to suit.

Purchased two mismeasured windows this morning, one for alongside the door and a longer shorter window which will sit maybe 1 block below the wall plate as a little bit of natural light towards the front of the garage for the sum of £220 inc sills.

Got home and started on the pillar against the garage, so cut a clean line in the old scratch coat and fitted a wall starter kit (firfix?) and took the pillar up to the same height as the current wall, then to the rear of the garage I made a start fitting the sill and building up the reveals for the window.

Came back from the van on Monday night and decided to fix my window in place. Just a case of a bit more now means a bit less later. Cue the poor weather yesterday I thought that was my lot till I go back offshore but it was dry so did a fair bit today.

This afternoon I managed to get it prepped to take the lintel over the window. Only had a couple of hours so not much done.
Hopefully I can find some time tomorrow.

Did a bit of heavy work today, removed the roller shutter, kango’d Out a concrete block from the old garage to accommodate a pre-stressed lintel, fitted the uPVC door then fitted both window and door lintels.
Then with the aid of my son in law (not the one who gave me a hand with the floor, the other one) we modified the roller shutter steels and welded a couple of straps across so it basically has 8 fixings across 4 straps, hopefully that’ll be enough to hold the door in place. It really was head work trying to set it out as neither garage is square to each other due to the footprint on the garden. It basically tapers all the way up.
Then rebuilt the curtain before tensioning the door.

Still have to sort a cap and some sheeting over the top as there is now a triangular shaped void between both doors which could be accessed.

Been a long day. Just sat down for a bite to eat at 8pm and not even had a shower yet!

Once the garage is finished I’ll build a triangular step into both garages.

Hammer and bolster. I did use an old 9inch cutter to cut the window lintel though due to the rebar steel core.
Dusty job though with an abrasive disc.

Got back home last night, didn’t have much time today but got a little further this afternoon. Had to push myself to do a bit as the roller shutter is being fitted next week. Hopefully the pillars will be fully cured to take it.
Another course on the pillars tomorrow should see the lintels on. That’ll be about 2.1m to the underside so it’ll be fine.
Another course on the side wall and I can fit my long narrow window (roughly 1.4m x 280mm) which is just to give some natural light at the far end of the garage.

Had a productive day today. Got the pillars ready and lifted the two lintels up with the aid of my son in law. Fixed my stainless steel gate into the space outside the garage then got my side wall ready to fit the window. Filled the void between the lintels with bits of rebar and cement, hence the supports under the lintel holding up my shuttering timber.

Need to cut my cill tomorrow, cut a few blocks to get my working height then drop in the window and cill then my lintel.

Ordered my wall plates ready to take my 8x3 support timbers and tomorrow I should be able to start cutting in my sides to get my fall for the 4x2’s to sit on. Getting near now!

so you can fasten your wall batten onto it as well your rackers onto the wall battern
