@fizzy i have found my fluorescents perform much better when they aren’t coated in half an inch of grinding dust!
I changed a couple recently and and the difference in light output between an old grubby fluor and a new one is quite astonishing. A big downside to them is how easy they are to break. I’ve smashed one or two this last 12 month because of very low ceiling heights and if I didn’t have a good supply of these I’d have certainly swapped to led. The stories of them lasting a short period of time always put me off, and I don’t particularly like how leds cast shadows, areas seem to only be lit or unlit, nothing in between where as with fluorescent you seem to get a bit of bleed around objects.
