Looked at the EWM manual and it looks like it uses the Euro Connector for trigger and gas, power connects to the dinse socket.


Suppose the EWM Phoenix is a machine that costs at least 4x as much so really it can't be used as a comparison, the R-Tech however is slightly cheaper so it can be.

Having said that you probably bought it for the Mig and that looks very nice and the synergic side of it seems to work well so....

Yep definitely pleased so far, i think the welds appear ok, will do some some and etch tests soon.

I'm not bothered about the Tig side really, it just seems so off-kilter compared to the rest of the unit, a really well-built Mig supply, videos show it as being excellent with rods too but then they sort of gave up on the Tig bits.

Certainly nice having clean welds again

I didn't comment on the welds as I really don't know anything about Mig welding, well on steel that is, only use Mig for Alu. Will leave the experienced guys to comment on the welds but it certainly sounded nice when welding

Well I do a lot of stainless and also a fair bit of steel but mainly stick welding and some Tig and only very occasionally do I Mig steel, that is when I have to fill up worn rollers so it is piling the wire in on spray.

Nice, one of my typical pieces, basket bracket, 4 welds 20mm long, 3mm steel.


Just turn on, purge gas, point, shoot. Not 100% pretty but a good joint all the same and way better than i've been doing And minimal spatter.

Had a spare few mins so did a wee test with the EWM similar to the deep vee test you were talking about before.
3mm 5083 Alu with 1.2mm 5183 wire. Wee bit of porosity at the start, should have upped the Argon a wee bit but otherwise pretty good.

I used to do things like that with the standard Mig, needed tweaking of volts and wire feed at times so the synergic settings make things easy. Just dial in to 3mm and away you go


Not sure what you are meaning about the wire feed, are you meaning the m/min it is doing? If so then don't have a clue as I never look at it but can check it out tomorrow if I remember.

Just the super pulse working, thin stuff has a lower frequency sound, thicker stuff a higher pitch. Put it on single pulse and it is just one pitch.

Edit, when I say single pulse just has one pitch I mean when doing a weld, the picth will still be higher when doing thicker stuff.

No, don't worry, I was just thinking that to maintain a long stickout like that on alu wire it must have been feeding pretty fast?

Not going noticeably faster than it would be on any other weld on 3mm plate. Will do a few tests tomorrow and see what it is doing.

Yep, almost welds itself

Where I like it the most though is once you have it tweaked to suit they way you work then it is just wirefeed adjustments required no matter the thickness or position. That is especially good for me as I can be down inside a hull of a boat and the welder on the deck and I don't have to constantly jump in and out just to alter voltages because I am one minute doing a fillet, next a vertical, or 3mm then 12mm etc, big big time saver and also as I get older a knee joint saver

They are very good machines. Incidentally the ForceArc program is very good for full pen, long stickout welds in narrow preps. 30 degree included angle single sided full pen butt welds on 40mm mild steel plate is well within the machines capabilities.

Just watched your video. The quick connector on the gas hose is for connecting the hose to the back of the machine by the way .
