New roll, amazing!

Right got the welder today but forgot top take the .8 I had a roll of .6 but was repairing a sump that had cracked so .6 was ok,
using co2 tried it on 3mm box, could run flat out voltage and flat out wire amperage was 90 /100 on the digi display but didnt quite go into spray, but strangely the welder didnt sound quite as sweet as before ???

Can't spray with pure CO2

but what I was trying to say was it might have gone into spray had it been on argo shield, but it was in globular and hence the spatter, and the fact the welder didnt sound the same, and poss what he was experiencing.

Maybe my 0.6 is in spray? What would be the setting to trigger spray transfer?

I'm still not convinced there is not a feed issue, it sounded a bit odd yesterday a couple go times on 0.6 but its more forgiving so didn't really make a difference, the welds are still lovely and still better than minimal spatter if any.

I have had weld-back on the tip a couple of times on the 0.6 this week.


I have since changed the gas and can rule that out now.

What type of arc are you getting, can you see it fanning out? Is it a much quieter more of a swoosh sound?
Don't quote me on this but I think you can get into spray on 0.6 at about 150A, not sure what voltage that is, but between short circuit and spray you'll get globular.

Ah probably not then, i think this was running about 130A - i'll have another look this weekend, maybe i am bordering between short circuit and globular again though.

I checked this morning and on the 0.6 it was running at 80A

Still suffering, I went back to 0.8mm last night, first time in a while as a lot of my stuff can be done on 0.6mm.

Nice relatively simple job, fire-pit, clean 3mm steel, no need for picturesque welds.

Absolutely crap, worst welds i've done in a long time, spatter as big as golf balls. Sometimes when starting off it was like pressing the trigger and instead of getting an arc i was getting a flamethrower with molten metal thrown in - almost like pouring the wire out of the torch, weld was flat and massively hot.

No idea what is going now, getting language removed off with it TBH. Dunno wether to send it in for service or just jump the r-tech ship and buy a different make of unit????

Is it still under warranty? I see its a long thread and not sure if you have already spoken to R tech but if not ring and ask for Daz and ask for advice.

Nah out of warranty, they did say i can return it for service but have no spare unit so would be down until it returns.

from what you said about wire melting back sounds like wire speed is way to slower for power its set at ?

But if its not welding correctly its useless to you anyway. And you would not get rid of a car if the MAF broke you would get it serviced surely?

A lot of my stuff is ok on 0.6 and it does ok with that, I think best to try different wire first - can anyone recommend a known good brand?

Thanks for the offer, i don't know anyone locally, i'll ask at work, there are other engineer places around there but no idea if MIG and if they do they probably are way up in the power range compared to my little unit.
