great idea i have 3 water butts here need more really i have 1 for the garage 2 for the work shop need 1 or 2 for the house, I need proper is it IBC?? really

I have a food grade blue 310 litre barrel use one of the down pipe leak offs to fill it so when it is full the excess drops into th sump of the land drain . Every six months or so it's advisable to use a hose , lift the cap of the filler device and wash out any crud as sometimes they can get filled with sludge and hardly anything goes in the barrel .
I've also put Aldi gutter grids on/ in the gutter to prevent leaves & twigs /feathers etc. blocking the bends of the down pipe think they were 500 mm long interlocking grids @ 10 for £7 several years ago . All left over ones got cut into four inch squares and used under bonsai plant pots to ensure good drainage.

Just remember that the Industrial Bulk Containers will weigh over 1000kg when filled so make a sound stand & base for them with enough clearance for you to gravity fill a bucket with ease . Having a pump for extracting the water is all well & good till it dies at the most inconvenient of moment . s.
On line ( eBay ) you can get really big heavy duty 2.5 mtr tall by 1.2 mrt dia with screw lid and tap big black ex fruit juice containers , delivered too from a company in Bristol .

My friend Don had four of these big ex fruit juice container receiving water from his north stock shed roof aspect , interconnected low down for his only water supply at his small holding . I helped him set up the 400 mm thick reinforced base & climbed inside to set up the pipe work connections . One year they froze after that he used to put a straw bale jacket round and on top of them .

Look at this , they are the 1500 butts we set up , you might have to do a bit of searching but they are out there .
